Default dodge 99/318/automatic/issues/checking VB solenoids

is there any way to check the solenoids in the transmission of a dodge 318 truck?

Story: sister has truck that stops moving forward, after sitting awhile it will drive for a while. seemed weird to me, i drove it to the barn and it was not slipping,,, put it in reverse and nothing,,,,,,,drive nothing,,,,,wait a while and it will drive.
