Just because its a cam sensor, doesn't mean its needed to run. Some vehicles yes, some no. It will probably flag a trouble code but still run.

Cam sensor is mostly used for fuel inj. timing, if it doesn't have a signal it relys on programed fuel inj. timing. Newer/different stuff does more with cam signals and are more important they won't run without it.
