Default Stephanie's Chevy Tractor

The girlyfriend has a thing for Samurais and Trackers so I've been keeping an eye out for one. It had to be an automatic and 4x4 of course. And preferably dark blue.

The day before St. Pats someone posted one up on our county Facebook page, which is not even a "for sale" page. But it had a number so I called, and St. Pats morning I picked it up for $400 and surprised her.

The previous owner drove it for a ton of highway miles, and kept calling it a tractor when we were doing our dealing.

It is a 2001 four door V6. The interior is dirty but near mint. No serious rust, but it has a bent passenger door and rocker....and only drives in reverse!

The immediate plan:

1. Get driving forward

2. Fix body damage

3. Fix anything else that needs attention

Then she is going to drive it around as a daily driver and work out any bugs. Future possibilities are a lift and/or Toyota solid axle swap and anything else she may want.

Stephanie has been a passenger on many runs with me over the last few years and she loves wheeling. This is her very first 4x4!

I never knew Trackers were so roomy!

Picked up a used trans for $175 with a 30 day warranty.

Driveshafts, exhaust, and Trans crossmember are out. Now it gets interesting. Things are so tightly packaged that I cannot figure out access for the torque converter bolts. I'll be looking it up online tonight. The lower end of everything is so greasy I'm tempeted to pull the motor and all and regasket everything. Although I think most of the grunge came from the bad tranny.

I've been stupid busy at work so my poor shop (and the Tracker) have been neglected over the last few weeks. Hoping to get some good wrench time in the next couple of days!

Front diff had to come out to get to torque converter bolts and sway bar had to be unbolted and swung forward for room to drop trans.

Trans is out and everything underneath is pretty much degreased.

Well damn! I went to drain the fluids out of the junkyard trans/t-case combo and found it not only full of water, but big chunks of broken metal came out of the t-case. Fortunately I hadn't installed it yet!

I called up the yard I got it from, and they said bring it back, they have others. Plus they will extend the warranty. So that's good I guess!
