Why not? It's just a style thing. This bike isn't a super practical bike, it's just a cool looking bike.

You got rid of a Triumph Tiger in lieu of a Honda Shadow? How come?

I'd say its more practical than stylish. And that ds tire on there looks fookin stoopid.

well when you take it offroading at night that might make more sense with the front tire.

X2. That bandana doesn't look faggy at all. I don't want to miss the chance to point out all the stickers and the single header pipe that is wrapped. All tose things really add to the 500cc's of badassery.

You can't forget about the stickers and the "1" on the gas tank. It screams "tight jeans, bandana, aviator glasses, long oddly cut hair, vest with sweet patches all over it and converse all stars"

That #1 sticker is pretty weak though. Needs more this:

Default Honda Rebel or Yamaha V-Star both 250cc

I can't stop thinking about getting a new bike. Well, new to me. I don't care if it is used.

I used to have a bike and ride years ago, so I'm not a total virgin to motorcycles.

I'm leaning towards the Yamaha since a local dealer has a 2011 brand new...at a somewhat reasonable price.

I have looked on line, and it seems whichever one someone buys, they are happy with it.

I have sat on both, and don't seem to notice a big difference.

Anyone here have either one of these? What made you purchase one over the other?

Oh yeah, what is a good helmet? I hate to buy one at the bike shop because it is the one that fits. (I am finding somewhat limited selection on small helmets.)
Thanks,

Thanks,
If I had to get one or the other, I'd get the Yamaha, just because it's a v-twin.

I would however recommend the Suzuki TU250X if you wanted a 250 street bike with classic styling. It's fuel injected and looks way cooler than the rebel or the v-star. It is also a standard, not a cruiser, so your feet are below you, not in front of you.

I rode one when I took the MSF class with my wife. It was pretty nice and it was a trooper for what that class puts it through.

I would have to recommend a full face helmet for safety's sake, but I'm really digging the Bell 500 series 3/4 helmets.

Thanks,
I have an '03 Suzuki GZ250 that is up for sale... I bought it for my wife to learn on after she took the MSF course but she realized she'd rather just ride on the back of mine.

Buying a new 250 cruiser seems like a bad idea. You can find super nice ones with low miles for half or less of new, that someone bought, outgrew, and put in the garage to sit for 5-10 years

Agreed, Buy a cheap good used one to try out and see if you like riding again. I have seen plenty of nice Honda Rebels for $1500.00

I just bought a 96 250 Yamaha to bob out for $400.00

I agree. The one im selling barely has 1000 miles on it and is in almost perfect condition. Hell, id ride the thing as a commuter if I fit on it but its too small for my big ass.
