Default Thinking out loud... Ok, whining out loud

Frame on my YJ is shot, rotted around the steering box. I don't want to fix the frame. I could fix it, but those that know my motivation level know that I won't fix it. I saw an 88 YJ on CL that would have been perfect, clean tub and frame with a bad engine for $950, but I passed because that's more than I want to spend.
Perfect thing to find would be a YJ with a decent tub, good frame, and good springs. I could then transfer my essentially all new running gear and have a decent jeep.

If I could raise some cash I'd buy this:
http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthread.php?t=126381
and part out mine.

I would fix the frame if it weren't for the fact that I have the weekend rule.

If I don't complete a project over one weekend, odds are it will never get finished and just sit in the garage forever. And I have the garage to prove it.

Could you pay someone, like a welder or something to patch what needs fixing? Probably wouldn't cost much or take much of your time.

I know what's involved to do it right, it wouldn't be cheap. It needs the entire driver's side of the frame rail replaced from just above the axle. When I discovered the rust I posted pics and got some pics of a repair in return. I could do it, but not in one weekend. Lately my job has me on the road anyway, I'm going to Brownsville Texas the first half of next week and then Athens Tennessee the second half. Frequent Flier miles!

Wouldn't be so bad if I hated driving the damn jeep, then I could just get rid of it.
If I got a fairly clean roller I could swap axles and drivetrain in one weekend no problem. That's my best option. I probably should have jumped on the CL jeep, it was nearly identical, no rust, just a dead 4 banger.

Yeah, I didn't see the extent of the damage. Aren't the frames on the CJ and YJ the same? You could probably find someone with a CJ frame for cheap.

Now see I could save you money, if you bought my M884 you could roll the body off and then just drop the YJ tub right on. then you'd have a set of decent axles and 1 ton springs with a V8 under the hood...easy stuff. by the way if you have the need to use a CJ8 body that would make it easier since you wouldn't have to stretch your body or shorten the frame.

I've run across a couple decent frames, but the time involved doing what is essentially a frame up build is more than I have.

That's a sucker bet, since you know I'm too cheap to pay someone OR pay top dollar for a clean roller....
