Default My stupid dog got sprayed by a skunk...

my wife and I were taking a walk on our fenced in 8 acres. the skunk came out and cut accrossed in front of me and the wife. the dog was about 50-70 feet behind it around the other side of the brush. next thing I knew we were screaming for the dog to stop because the beagle in her led here straight at it. we no sooner then we saw the skunk dive through the fence we saw the mist well up around the dog...she got hit at point blank range! the majority of her fur under her chin was yellow with spray. the wife got mad, I went and got the jug of fast orange and a garden hose. I scrubbed her down twice and then tossed her in her cage to dry in the bathroom with the fan on...my whole house stink from the smell. my foyer is the worst. I must have gotten some on my shoes when I came in...I'm all but gaging as I type

You're the third person on this site this year to have this happen.
Maybe grandcherokee and fsumotorhead have some advice you could put to use.

If the recipe above doesn't work we have used tomato juice on our skunky dogs when I was a kid. An old home remide. My dog would get into one at least once per year since the skunks lived under our barns. We would take a couple of quarts of canned tomatoes or tomato juice and scrub all over the dog, then hose off. Would not remove the smell completely but made it tolerable.
As for your house I would Febreze the crap out of it and also spray it up into the vent fan in your bathroom as they can recirculate a smell through out your house.
Not too cold for the dog to spend a night outside in its cage.

when my coonhounds run into skunks while hunting, we usually will throw them in a dog box, where all they get basically is fresh air and food, eventually they get so sick of the smell that its even intolerable for the dog and we never have to really worry about it anymore, bad move on bringing the dog into the house. If its possible, and old trick we do for deer and off game is get urine like doe piss and spray there food down and there snout for like a week or to consistently, at first it doesnt bug the dog but by the second week they will almost vomit or not even touch ther food, and i guarentee you nxt time they will think twice

My uncle use to coon hunt and when his dogs got sprayed he would take Really dry Black Dirt and rub it all over the dog and then bath them like normal with shampoo...a lot of people think this sounds stupid but it really works for some reason. I think the dirt gets down to the skin and absorbs the skunk spray and then when you bath them it washed the dirt away. Old southern trick, my dad also did it when our dog got sprayed when I was a kid and after the bath the dog was sleeping in the house that night.
