Default Bluetooth in a Laptop

Other than connecting a bluetooth mouse, is there any other cool things I can do with it on a laptop?

The reason I ask is that I found a bluetooth adapter that I can pretty painlessly install internally in my eeepc that is pretty inexpensive. Ive never used bluetooth on a laptop though.

pics, documents, calendars, contacts, etc. Only if you have a "smart" phone though is it even a necessity or convenience.

if you use video chat you can use your blue tooth headset.... Honestly blue tooth is pretty much only used for wireless headsets, cell phones and mice... I'm sure there is more but that's the only popular ones.

I hacked my old phone to use the bluetooth adapter in my laptop as a wireless Dial Up Modem for AOL about 3-4yrs ago. Back then mobile internet packages sucked majorly and while it was only 36.6kbps max speed it was connecting to a local number for free after 9pm. Late night road trips FTW

other than the things mentioned i used to use it to control music, like a wireless remote with my phone. But that's about it.

wireless keyboard
wireless stereo headphones

it really bothers me when people refer to their wireless headset as a blutooth.

Unless you're going to use a BT keyboard, mouse, headset, or phone... don't bother.

Address book syncing over BT can be pretty painful, unless your phone is smart about it. This is why I pay for an Exchange account, and sync over the air. I've gone through like 5 phones in the last 4 years and haven't had to re-add a single contact.

Depends on really how much you move your laptop around. I have internal Bluetooth and use it pretty much just for the mouse and love it. I hate having a receiver hanging off my laptop, that can get hit or snapped off. With the Bluetooth, I can just turn on my mouse and there I go. I also use my Bluetooth head piece(standard phone kind) on my laptop when I am talking on Skype and want to move around the house while I talk.

In the end it's up to you, if it's cheap and you don't mind spending the money go for it, it's always there if you need it in the future. If the money is better spent elsewhere and you don't think you will use it enough to justify it, then don't.

Good Luck

I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I also sync my phone to my address book. I've used it to upload a couple pictures that were sent to my phone too.
