Default CCW class, and local FFL needed.

What is the best local shop service, stock, etc.
I am looking for a springfield XDM sub compact.

Also looking for a good CCW class, not just someone who will take my $40 and sign off on the forms, I would actually like the full class.

Oh yeah and, Best prices on Ammo?
Thanks in advance,

Scott

Gun shops seem to have different "personalities", and people have different likes and dislikes with them. You might try The Firing Line in Westland. I don't mind Guns Galore in Fenton, but I know lots of people are not treated well there.

You will get a quality class by fully certified and knowledgable instructors at the Fenton Lakes Sportsmans Club. There is contact information for their classes on their main web page.

As far as ammo prices go, right now the difficulty is finding what you want in stock and prices are often through the roof. For range/practice ammo check the Winchester White Box stuff that is available sometimes at Walmart. Ammo is starting to come back, so don't rush to buy it if you don't have to.

Firing Line is a great place to go for the class. I took mine there this past fall and they get really in depth on all levels of handgun responsiblity. You get class time and then lots of time in the range.

I just received my license a few weeks ago...

I normally end up buying from gun's galore, but unless you go in there wearing a confederate flag bandanna, and a full beard, they will treat you like shit.

I normally play with the guns at bass pro, then go to GG since they tend to be the best price.

Guns Galore in Fenton is ok, a few guys in there are ok but a couple of em seem like they don't have the time of day for you. But for prices, yup can't beat em.

Bass Pro at Auburn Hills for your CPL. Jerry Wrage, great instructor, very indepth and knowledgable. He accually trains cops and security company employees. His test is good, requires more than just a pass, but the class is simple, can't fail, if you do you should not own a gun.

They are usually really busy on the weekend and you'll end up waiting 10-15 minutes for someone to help you. But there is a lot of stuff to look at while you wait.

Potaytoes, potahtoes...

CCW is the term that people use that refers to the laws regarding Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

CPL refers to the Concealed Pistol(s) License. And before we pick that nit, some licenses have Pistol and some have Pistols...

Don't get me started on clips and magazines!

Great course. Rick is the lead instructor. Very knowledgable and very passionate about what he teaches. The course is about 6-7 hours in the class, then 20 minutes of shooting with 1 on 1 training. If you are looking for a 4 hour class and a cert to get your CCW, this isn't it. We took our class on a Saturday. Started at 8am and we left the range at about 6:30pm. If you don't have a pistol, he has some you can use (if you ask ahead of time). The classes are in Southfield/Royal Oak. Classes are generally pretty small, and be prepared to be part of the discussion. He doesn't let people sit in the corner and not say anything for 8 hours. It is interactive. He also has a lawyer come in and explain the rights given to specific scenarios, as well as take questions from the group.

Damion is another instructor. He has a lot of real world scenarios/stories that he has been in with his line of work. Some are funny, some are not.

No such thing as an XDM sub-compact. Only an XD sub-compact.

I took my class at the Firing Line. I thought it was great.

I stay in touch with Rick Ector pretty frequently...he is an awesome guy.

Oh, and if you bring your fiance, be ready for her to out test and out shoot you But it does make a great Christmas gift (to take the class).
