Default leaf spring swap

will swapping a pair of 1997 chevy silverado Z71 leaf springs fit into a 1996 gmc 1500 suburban? and if so would it give it any more lift cause my stock springs are almost shot.

IIRC the burb spring are longer, you could always measure them Center of spring eye to the other!

They'd fit, but you'd have to do some fabricating

It really wouldn't be worth your time though, unless they're 3/4 ton springs, a burb is a lot heavier than a truck in the ass end, 1/2 ton springs will sag really quickly. you'd do better to at least but an overload spring in or an add-a-leaf

Lift wise, yes it give you stock lift....for a couple months

Cut the spring eyes off the Z71 main leaf and put it in the Suburban spring pack like an add-a-leaf.

As stated before Burbs are a lot heavier in the ass end, I would swap in some 3/4 ton truck springs or look for a good set of Suburban springs. I think the 1/2ton Burb springs have one more leaf then 1/2ton truck springs, I could be wrong but I dont think I am. My 3/4ton Burb has 8 leafs in my spring pack. Another option would be to use 1/2ton truck springs and have a leaf added...AB Spring Service Inc in Grand Rapids does this type of work, they can also get you stock replacement springs. They do great work on all suspension and steering related components at a reasonable price. They might even be able to repair your old springs by adding a leaf or something?

Tell them your situation. They might even have some good used springs? They are good people and will help figure out your best solution for the cheapest price.

Shouldn't cost too much to swap springs. I swapped some 3/4 ton springs into a 95 Z71 a while back. Went to a salvage yard and they torched the rears outta a 3/4 ton. I think I paid like $50 for the pair. Cheaper than buying lift springs... Just bought new u-bolts and go.

Leaf springs are crazy easy! Hardest part is physically moving them...
