Default Disturbing trend of deforestation.

Earlier this year, we rode Tomahawk and noticed LOTS of logging around and through the trail system; this weekend we rode Evart, and half of the trail is closed to let logging companies work as they clearcut through the south eastern 5 or so miles of trail.

I have not started research yet, but it seems that our state is drumming up $$$ for the lopsided budget by whoring out our natural resources to the highest bidder.

Worse yet, most logging operations I see from the trail are never re-seeded or re-forested, they seem to just them grow whatever ends up blowing there - weeds, then eventually, lots of seedling trees.

Shouldn't this be public knowledge some where? Prior years vs projected for this year?

Absolutely, I just have not had the time to search for it.

All I can find on the DNR website is the current proposals for sale, not past.

Probably because they don't want to easily give out ammunition against themselves.

You just don't get it. Clear cutting helps the forest. Geez.

I know it sounds goofy, but after watching a documentary on Yellowstone, the forests come back from a fire/clear cut much stronger then they once were.

Should be able to FOIA (freedom of information act) something like that, if they won't readily give you the info. I haven't looked into it at all, so I'm probably barking up the wrong tree (forgive the pun) but I thought that FOIA was so that anyone could request public records in a "streamlined" manor.

You're right though, I noticed that about 5-6 years ago in the St Helen area. Used to cruise through tree-lined routes and admire the scenery, but now you can pretty much see everything from the scramble area.
