Here's a January 2007 update & teaser photo (several more photos can be seen in this thread). The Scrambler is in good hands with a father/son team in Thayer, Kansas. They own several Scramblers, and have built a couple from the ground-up.

Some of the body panels were replaced after deciding we wanted nicer quality sheet metal (on the front clip), and they're getting these parts ready for paint.

The top in the photo is just for fittment. The actual CJ-8 1/2 hard top is with Matt at gr8tops, where it will be professionally refinished and fitted with a sliding rear window. If you have seen the work from gr8tops before, there have been a couple TJs in Jp Magazine recently with his 1/2 TJ hard tops. One is "Booty-Licious" (the Poison Spyder TJ that was in the Ultimate Adventure), and there's another Inca Gold TJ with one, as well.

Progress is being made, and getting the 4.0 wired & fired is only a few months away.

BTW, the tires on the Scrambler are just rollers. We're looking for a tire sponsor to provide a set of 31-33" tires. If anyone has any "ins" with a tire shop/company, please let me know.

We also took ownership of the Ultimate Air setup, and will be mounting it soon, too (thanks again for the sponsorship!).

Yeah, I would think ticket info would have been top priority. I was a little disappointed a couple months back when I checked out the link and saw they were making all sorts of changes to the raffle policy. Seems like something you would have worked out before the build began.......

I guess my life doesn't completely revolve around making you happy, amc78cj7... :tonka:

Seriously, this is a first for the Scrambler Owners Association. We're not a professional raffle organization, nor do we have the manpower to do things as quickly as we originally hoped to. It's volunteer work, and that often takes time. I'm also a Michigan-based Project Manager running a project that is technically based out of South Carolina. Because these laws vary state-to-state, we want to make sure we have our ducks in a row.

We decided we'd finish the vehicle, promote it for a year through magazines and 4WD/car shows, and raffle it off in 2008. I'm hoping to have a tickets sales update shortly. I just got some info to look through at the beginning of this week.

So, try not to be too critical. It's a cool project for a great cause, and it's being worked on by volunteers that have the same types of time constraints that you & I do.

This just in...

We have a new project sponsor, thanks to Scott Mine (SOA President). Interco Tire has donated a set of 32" x 11.50" x 15" Super Swamper Radials (SSRís) for the project.

We're also currently getting estimates on printing for the raffle tickets.

I added the link below to my original post. There are a LOT of photo build pics here, and Jason & Ken (hosts of the build in Kansas) are going above & beyond in their anal-retentive detail work with the project.

EDIT (2/20/2007): Lots of Kansas "Stage 2" Build/Assembly Pics here!

Also, I received quotes for ticket printing, and I'm working on the verbiage for the raffle tickets now.

HUGE news in the way of sponsorships...

Hesco just donated their comprehensive 4.0L "Retrofit Kit" ($1585), thanks to the efforts of Mike at 4x4 Land in Kansas. Mike also lined up a set of Eagle alloy wheels for the project.

As if that's not enough, 4x4 Land is hosting a work weekend, and this Scrambler will run & drive after this weekend!

I will be finishing up the verbiage for the raffle tickets this weekend. The only thing 'll be waiting for is for the cj-8.org site to be back up (it got hacked a couple times, and is currently down). Matt (donaghy) is going to create a cj-8.org/charity8 (or something along those lines) URL for the charity Scrambler, and this URL will be listed on the ticket. Tickets will be only $5.

Stay tuned for more...

Craig

Loaded up for the trip to 4x4 Land

Laredo dash striping was applied a couple days ago, with some temporary seats (it'll have black/silver Laredo seats eventually).

H-U-G-E progress this weekend...

From Jason (CHIEFWAHO on cj-8.com, host of the current build):
"Great weekend at 4x4 Land working on the Charity Scrambler. Thanks to Mike for letting us take over his shop and thanks to Warren, Ken and Mikeís buddy Marvin for all their help.

The day got started with checking out the Hesco swap kit, man what a kit. After seeing what all it takes to do this swap it would have taken forever without the Hescoís kit. We still needed a pressure side power steering hose so Ken volunteered to take the 2 hoses we had (1 CJ and 1 XJ) to a local shop and get them spliced together (Ken donated the $ for this item). Warren and Mike laid out the fuel system and got in ran to the fuel rail. I changed the valves on the shocks and tried to stay out of their way. The next step was putting the harness, computer, canister and vacuum lines under the hood. Never seen so many wiring plugs and lines in my life. Mike, Marvin and I worked til about 9:30 p.m. Mike got a call at 10 about a problem at his Colorado house and he had to fly out early Sunday morning so Marvin offered to open the shop so we could continue working. We didnít get the Scrambler running yet but did finally get it to fire, probably just a timing issue now. Also got started bleeding the brakes."

Arrival at 4x4 Land.

Fuel injection fuel lines componets installed.

Warren (scramblur) working on fuel system

ike (scrangler) mounting the computer with Ken (ibscrmbln) lending a hand.

CJ harness wires ready to be weeded thru for gauges and switches.

We have lights!

It's Alive!!!!!

From Mike at 4x4 Land:

"Thats right boys and girls, the SOA project roared to life today. Runs good. A little tweaking here and there but she sounds pretty good. Drove it out of the shop on her own power tonight. Birthdate 3 14 2007. Mike"

The Scrambler is now running & driving!

Here are a couple pics of the OEM 1/2 hard top that was reconditioned by GR8TOPS. In addition to the new gelcoat finish, GR8TOPS installed a new gasket and sliding glass window.

I'm just doing the final edit on the official rules, and we have already received the blessing from the state of South Carolina on the "base" legalese/verbiage. We have printing quotes for the tickets, as well. We'll be doing an initial run of 5000 tickets, but won't cap it at that quantity.

Tentative schedule for ticket availability:
  • 4/25/2007: Official Rules verbiage finalized.
  • 5/5/2007: Official Rules and entry/ticket request forms published on cj-8.org.
  • 5/31/2007: Tickets available to public.

The vehicle will be promoted throughout 2007, and will be given away in June 2008.

Sweet looking giveaway. Just sent you a PM on the tickets then read the post rather than looking at the pics! (duh!!) See how to get tickets now.

Well, another project work weekend wrapped up a lot of the final details on this Scrambler. I would use a bunch of great adjectives to describe this, but the pics really speak for themselves.

I just finished the Official Rules, and the ticket/order form verbiage yesterday. I'll be calling about ordering the initial run of 5000 tickets today. Tickets should be available by the 2nd or 3rd week of May. Enjoy the pics. This Scrambler is really sweet!
