Default bump stop ?'s

can you/should you use your trac bar for a bump stop "pad"?

im running out of room and i want to simplyfy things. im thinking of building a bump stop/ trac bar mount on the drivers side frame and the pass side axle. the drivers side will be fine. but on the pass side axle is it a good idea to run your bump stop onto the trac bar or the trac bar mount? i wont be jumping the cherokee, i learned that lesson with my last rig. but i most lkely will be putting a decant amount of pressure on the bump stop from time to time.

I have seen bump stops on things that make you scratch your head and say "WTF????" but they still seem to work and not fail...

On the track bar mount it would be perfectly fine, I wouldnt run it on the track bar itself unless you know everything is up to the multiplication of forces and also the track bar itself is strong enough not to bend.

Bumping on the track bar adds 2 additional items. First, additional stroke due to the bushing compression and you will be wearing out the bushing that much faster.

I don't see an issue if the top of the track bar mount is a bumpstop as well. I wouldn't want it pushing on the bar itself in a manner that might bend it in a jump, though.

Slight hijack, 95Geo, I believe you've mentioned some late model chevy truck bumps that are kinda nice, more progressive than a lot of whats out there... happen to remember the specific application?

99-06ish 1/2 ton pickup, chevy/gmc rear, if benny87 chimes in here be can probably pull the part number off the one I let him borrow for mock-up

they start nice and squishy and become completely solid at 1.75" from the mounting face.

i've seen people run bump stops between a long arm link and the frame. no idea how well it works but just throwing ideas out there

the bump stop would contact ~5-6" from a 3/4x3/4 hiem im using 1.5" 1/4 wall DOM tubing. i dont think i will bend that without breaking other things as well.

you will bend the track bar and the heim joint shank, not a good idea....

Yeah, you'll bend that on one good jump.

LOL, I had a log get jammed between my axle and tie rod, and managed to bend that just with the force of the steering box.

I have some from a 99 tahoe, they seem pretty stiff?
I am told the s10 blazer ones are alot like you describe also, I plan to look into them.

Those look the same as the rears in my envoy too...

that is the wrong style of vehicle.... the new style tahoe is linked in the rear so they will be different, the one you are talking about is the old style, right?

go look under the vintage and application I spec'd out and you will see the bump stop. From what I remember about s-10 stuff I dont think they are as good as the ones a few posts up...

Yep, the tahoe is a 96-99 style with leafs. Thanks for correcting me.

just for clarification, they look similar to the ones in the rear of a trailblazer/envoy but they are not the same. the TB/envoy style are about 1" larger in diameter and the squishy material is not positively locked into the mounting cap, they will pop out. they are also significantly softer than the application from a 1/2 ton pickup.

They are about $12-$15 each at the local dealer so there isnt much out there that can compare for the money.
