Default ranger 3.0 to 4.0

My father in law is going to give me his ranger. It's a 96 2wd with a 3.0 liter engine with about 250,000 miles on it. I'm pretty sure I can handle the 4wd conversion but i'm not too sure what i would need to swap in a 4.0. I'm probably going to find a wrecked donor but what will I need to use as far as motor mounts, wiring, etc. Thanx for the help

If your going through all the trouble to do a 4x4 and 4.0 conversion why not go the next step, find an AWD or 4x4 ford Explorer 5.0 and do a v8 and 4x4 conversion into a ranger? Go to ranger-forums.com for all the tech info, people do motor swaps and 4x4 conversions weekly. A few people in southeast michigan to.

Also 1996 would have a TTB suspension. so your going to either do alot of fab work to do a 4x4 conversion do to the fact that all 1998+ Rangers are Torsion bar suspensions. Im not sure how hard to do a TTB suspension conversion would be though.
