Blood/Plasma Donations

Anyone on here ever donate blood? What about donating plasma? Was it uncomfortable?

I've never donated before (extreme dislike of needles), but I've thought about it recently. Though I don't have a sought after blood type for normal blood donations, I do have a sought after blood type for plasma donation (AB+). Anyone here donate plasma? Where did you go? How was the experience?

I donate blood all the time, with my blood type being a- I am only 7 percent of the population with this type. Thinking about donating plasma for the extra 240 bucks a month.

i think you can only donate plasma every 120 days!
and if your getting paid it is not really donating is it?
I did not know anyone paid for that. I always donate at a red cross blood drive.
I could use the extra cash who pays you for it?

it is not uncomfortable at all if you to not like needles just dont watch them stick you!
after the needle is in you just lay there and wait for it to fill the bag! no biggie!!

I donate plasma as well for a while in AL. Extra 240 a month was kinda nice took about 4 hrs firt visit then about 1 each time I went after that, atleast $25 each time. Not a big deal, but can't be bothered by needles as the needles are pretty big, being they take out blood and keep the plasma then put your red blood back. But not bad as long as you eat something before you go and drink good amount of water. But I was comfortable, but that could of been the hot girls that worked there that was so nice.

Can't donate plasma and blood though at same time need 8weeks between doing so.

I used to donate plasma in college to help pay the bills. You can donate blood plasma TWO TIMES A WEEK and we were paid on a sliding scale between $11 and $17 a donation. (about 20 years ago)

I donated blood often before I went on m cruise this winter (Now im on 12 month donating probation because I went to haiti)

I hated needles before I started donating, it has made me completly overcome my fear. Its not bad. Ive only had one bad poke - most of them are awesome at their job. Its just a little stick then just wait. no pain whilee the needle is in.

Anyone know of a place that does plasma donations closer to SE MI? Biolife's closest one is Mt. Pleaseant, 150mi away.

For just donating blood, I could just go to a red cross center, right?

There used to be a med lab in Ypsi on Michigan avenue - that's where I used to go. No idea if it still exists.

I donated Plasma up in Marquette. they always had some deal to sign up friends/have a friend come in and say you sent them get an extra $10. It was a decent deal around 3 1/2-4 hours first time, physical, see nurse blah blah, after that it took me around 2 hours from when I walked in the door to walk out but my blood out and back in was always slow and I donated the "big" bag everytime. Wife was in and out under an hour, she had the small bag and always kept the machine working fully.

Yep, Biolife pays anywhere from 240 -270 a month depending on their promotions they are running, that's going twice a week. I donate before I go to work, takes about an hour. If you drink a lot of water the day before and eat just before you go in should be no problem. I hated needles when I first started, but you get used to it.

I used to donate plasma. Its not that bad, I hate needles but its alright, at least for BioLife they let you have your laptop and stuff while you do it. I am O- so they love it when I come in. And the red cross will not stop harassing me, until I moved and switched phone services. Donating plasma is a really easy way to make a few $$.
