Would you buy a D40 or D60 ??

Trying to decide on a new camera.
Is the VR worth it? I have heard the D40 has better color/lighting.
About $50 difference between the two. D40 is $450 the D60 $500
I should't need the extra resolution.

Any better deals or coupons out there?

I've hear the D40 is a good little camera, but I would pick up a D200!

In my opinion (i have both a D200 and a D40) the D40 does better in low light high ISO situations than the D200. (The D200 uses the same sensor as the D60) The D40 has nothing to do with VR. Its the lens that you buy for the camera, even though the D60 comes with it in most cases. You can mount any Nikon F mount lens on a D40, however if its not focused internally by a motor it wont focus on the D40 or D60, but you can focus manually.

There's nothing wrong with the D60 at all, its a nice camera, but the D40x is pretty much a D60. It has the 10.2 mp sensor. My vote between the 2 would be the regular D40 probably. The low light high iso, at least with mine is better.

Search SlickDeals.net and you should be able to pick up a D40 cheaper than that, maybe even look for a used one?
