I assume you're talking about the T-176 syncro being shot. Do you really want to change your whole drivetrain around to use the T-18?

That's correct.

I prefer the lower gearing in the T18, but would be happy with another 176... if the price is right.

the D300 T-case should bolt right up to the 18. I'm unsure of the bellhousing however...

The D300 won't bolt right to a T18...

The bellhousing is the same between the T-176 and T-18, but...

This is correct. The only Dana 300 that will bolt to the Texas pattern on the back of the T-18 without an adapter is the 1980 Scout Dana 300. Jeep Dana 300's require an adapter kit.

You may want to just look into fixing your T-176. There's a guy in Illinois that specializes in them and offers a warranty, too. He loops though Michigan every so many weeks collecting cores for whatever orders he's received. I'm sure he'll give you a credit for yours if you want a warrantied reman unit.

Its really, not that hard to replace the syncros your self. You can get the syncro kit thru 4wheelhardware i bet. and about the only tool you might have to buy is snap-ring plyers. I rebuilt my T176 and also T18(bearings & syncro's)and you can google a tear down sheet. $150 is a good deal on a T176 from mudbillyrednecks neighbor. .......How much do you want for yours if you don't rebuild it?

I think I still have a T18 in White Lake if you want to go that route.
