the 5.0s are great motors, i have owned a few and alot of people i know have owned them. the are strong running motors, and there reliable. ive never heard or seen one split in half. not sayn it didnt happen, but ive never had any time of encounter like that. there alot like the 350, parts are all over and there good running motors.

Will most likely be the next motor that goes in my jeep

Perfect for wheeling: Nice and light compared to all the big block pigs, and good power with strong after market support.

I've run one for the last 17 years in the Flareside...............current condition I'm running 330+ HP. They are great for Top end speed, not so well with the torque so make sure you accomodate with gears.
Overall low maintenance motor with the exception of exhaust mainifolds/headers. I could never get mine to seal tight enough, and the one that did, ended up breaking in the middle.

I'm removing my 302/5.0 for a 460, so if you are interested in any parts.............?

im just scared of fords, last ford we owned had a 351 and it was mostly at the garage getting worked on, could hardley ever drive it without something breaking. I'm not gonna be pushing any serious HP with it, just a DD

i have a 351 now in my bronco, i had a 302 in the previous bronco. the 351 will out run the 302. but the 302 always started and ran very well. it didnt seem as pickey about bad gas, or plugs. i loved the 302 just wished it had more power.

302 exploder FTW!!! masterbeatty had a 302 exploder holy crap that thing was fast!! a jeep depending on witch one is most likey smaller than the exploder so hold on tight that lil jeep should move pretty good. the only prob we had with the expolder 5.0 was the spark plug wires kept touching the manifolds and melting. on his bronco with the 5.0 we never had one prob at all.....

oh and these motors can run on about 90% water we had masterbeatty exploder filled the air intake box with just water/mud from wheeling and it still ran the filter was soaked and a lil bit pasted it so if need be these can almost run underwater.

5.0 is an awesome motor

302 one of the better ideas. Just look on pinks & see who wins all the time. Get a 85 -87 with forged pistons & they are good to 500 HP.
Or an early one with high nickle content. pre 72. Or a Mexican block.
Put a set of early 69 -71 351 Windsor heads 60cc & large valves. Good to go. I ahve an extra 69 302 for $302 out of a Mustang. PM me.

if you get a 5.0 make sure to get the mass air, not the speed density. they take modifications such as cams alot better.

As a motor it is pretty good but I think it depends what it is in to some extent. I hated my old man's 93 F150 with the 5.0....that thing was a dog. I drove an Exploder with the 5.0 and it scooted along pretty damn good.

that could be the gears my gpas mid 90s f150 had 308s and it was a dog, the 5.0 explorers have 3.73s so it helps

I love having the 5.0 HO in my ranger. I did find out this weekend that they don't like running on water very well.

Like was said before there is a massive amount of aftermarket support, mostly because of the mustang crowd. The only downfall is be prepared to spend a little more for parts compared to 350 chevy stuff.

if you are gonna put it in a jeep or something light it is fine. If you are running a full size rig with heavy ass axles, it might not hurt to consider something with a bit more torque. I have built tons of fords, and if it is just going in your jeep, even in stock from you will notice an increase in power.

Parts for em are all over ebay cheap and they have tons of aftermarket support, so not a bad swap at all.

you aren't too far away, so I'd be happy to help ya if you needed it.
