Default Muskegon county

Looking for more info on trails in Muskegon county area. Does anyone have any info about the 2track ot the end of Raymond rd in Twin Lake/ Holton area? Nice big field with a pond back there. Didn't play around too much though. Didn't have an ORV sticker yet..

I go out there quite a bit. What info are you looking for?...Pretty nice trail, I start at the end of Ewing rd, off from M-120 take the trail up to Holton Whitehall rd. Have to take the rd to get a round part of the trail that is only open to snowmobiles. I get back on the trail at Raymond rd. take it up to Skeels rd, jump on Skeels for a minute then turn into Sischo Bayou which is nice back in along the White river. If we feel like going farther we cross the river at County Line bridge and turn on Sand rd. from there you can take the trail into Hesperia. None of these trails are too challenging, but nice scenic trail. Hope this helps.

Hi!

Just so you know, you only need a ORV sticker for four places in Michigan. St. Helen's scramble area, Silver lake sand dunes, the mounds ORV park in mt. morris and bull gap.

. . .and anywhere on the ORV Route system that actually requires the use of 4WD (like the new Drummond Island ORV Route). Those are also the only 5 places you are allowed to use 4WD on public land unless it's a National Forest Maintenance Level 2 road.

My cabin is on Sand Road Two Track and I grew up as a Boy Scout in Whitehall hiking ALL of those trails. We used to wheel there before the land was sold off and developed.

Pm me if you have ANY questions about the trails in Muskegon or Oceana Counties. I know them all and have for 20+ years. Heck, I was even fortunate enough to ride all the closed ones before they were closed. Those closures are why I got into the 4x4 Land Use fight. All the BEST trails in the area now have houses on them or are blocked by the NFS.

Pat, the new drummond route requires an ORV sticker? Where would I look to find that on the state's website?

The approval notice for the new Route is listed here (4th down):
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dn...t_259157_7.pdf

And the requirements for ORV stickers are in the hand book (4 section down) here:
http://www.offroad-ed.com/mi/handbook/registration.htm

* * B U T * *

You may also notice 2 conflicting statements:

Vehicles that are licensed under the Motor Vehicle Code as "street vehicles" require an ORV license only when they are being used as an ORV.

The Law Enforcement Division is now taking the stance that use of 4WD is "being used as an ORV" while the book also goes on to state:

An ORV license is not required for street-licensed vehicles used on the frozen surface of public waters or designated ORV routes.

Try it though, and we'd probably end up with tickets. Not an all bad idea - I'd LOVE to see one fought in court, but to keep folks "safe" from unexpected citation, we should let them know about LED's viewpoint.

The Routes are maintained with ORV Sticker Program money, so I never mind spending the $16.50 as a cheap donation to that fund. If other folks do mind it, that's their prerogative. I'd be interested in knowing what Judges think about the situation.
