Default an article in the St. Petersburg, FL, Times Newspaper on Sunday

This is from an article in the St. Petersburg, FL, Times Newspaper on Sunday.
The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

Dear Mr.
President:

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the
money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the

Following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR.
Forty million cars ordered - Auto

Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis

fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!

If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their

constituents pay their taxes...

what happens if they have 780,000 in debt, and you give them 1,000,000 and then say they're not allowed to work?

You simply turn on the printing press.

A million dollars to last the rest of my life? You have got to be kidding me.

That means I have to retire in about a year and a half.

Believe me, I would not mind sleeping in more often, but I guarantee, it would eventually be economically devastating. I plan to live a lot longer.

This is keeping in mind that I am not over my head in a mortgage and have no problem buying a car.

I have seen a few of these hair brained ideas. Who comes up with this shit? And who actually believes it is a good thing?

The problem is they've already done this, but they put it in the wrong hands. I think the plan is a great idea. It may not be perfect, but it's a whole lot better than what they did...

Do you want a real solution?

Shut down the federal government except for national defense.....

2,900,000,000,000(2009 budget)-$494,000,000,000(2009 nat'l def. budget) = 2,406,000,000,000 savings going to 130,000,000 US tax payers= $18,507 per tax payer (on average).

If you had an extra $18K to spend per year would you? Could you spend it better than the gov't is spending it?

I would and I could.
