Default identifying c4

whats the easiest way to identify a c4 trans. my friend has 3 trucks behind his house, says they all have c4s, but just looking at the trans pan, theirs 3 different tranys? so how do i tell which one is a c4

11 pan bolts and the pan is square except for a little bump in the corner.

if its a full size early 80ish it will be a big bell c4 and the dipstick will be bolted to the pan, if its a medium bell then it was from a car and the dipstick will be in the case, now the rarest of all c4's came in the 75-78 mustang II, it was a small bellhousing unit and used a tiny torque converter.

Like CTB2 said on the pan. C4's also have removable bellhousing's. A C5 trans looks the same as a C4 other than the pan has a deep sump in the middle of the pan. Hope this helps.

thanx guys. i got a c5 off CTB2 and im lookin for a c4 to stuff in the ex so i can finally get a good drivetrain.

Get a c4 bellhousing, converter, and valvebody for your c5 and you will be set, that is what I have in my Ranger.

i would just rebuild the c5, but i want something to put a good transfer behind. 300,something strong, so i can move my weak link somewhere else.
