Default Rebuilding Johnny Joints

Has anyone here rebuilt and/or disassembled their Johnny Joints witthout using the $80 tool from Currie?

Why I ask, I just bought a used JKS track bar and I'd like to clean up the 2.5 inch Johnny Joint but I'd rather not spend $80 on the special tool nor do I want to f-up the joint. Both would sort of defeat the good deal I got on the used track bar.

Any help would be great!

I disassembled my JKS track bar with no special tool... I don't remember anything about it other than the fact that it wasn't hard which is why I don't remember.

On the johnny joints I've messed with, I used a couple sockets and the vise and snap ring pliers to get the ring out. Nothing huge.
