Add up the weight of your rig, drivers/passengers and gear. Your winch should be able to handle AT LEAST 1.5x that number for its weight rating.

Warn or Ramsey if you actually want to use it and have it work when you need it most. Other brands are fine if you don't need to rely on it.

When people are trying to find a cheap solution, I will always recommend the Warn 8000. May not be the fastest (still faster than the cheap junk), but it still has the quality behind it and can usually be had for $5xx.

picked up mine off ebay for $260. It needed a new cable. Use that thing atleast a dozen times every trip and its NEVER let me down. My first winch was a "Champion" a few years back. Used it a half dozen times within the first year and now it doesn't work at all. Gave it to a buddy and he still hasn't gotten it to work.

What's the deal with M8000s lately? Less than a year ago you could find them easily in the 500 range. Now I'm seeing them in the 900s.

What's up with that?
