Default Good local diesel mechanics?

I took my '01 Powerstroke to the dealer today to find out why it is stalling randomly. At first I figured it was just the cam position sensor, as these are prone to go bad on Powerstroke and cause the truck to stall. So, since the CPS is under recall, I figured I'd take it up to the dealer to have them take a look at it. Well, after checking everything out, they discovered that the CPS is fine (it was already replaced under recall) and instead found out that my #1 injector is shot and my #2 is hit or miss. They gave me a $1600 quote to swap out the two injectors. So, instead I figured I'd do it my self. I can get the injectors for $100 a piece. But since I've never dealt with injectors before, I figured before I go tearing through my motor, I'd see if anyone knows of any good diesel mechanics in the Rochester Hills area. I'd be willing to drive a little ways as well for someone that does a really good job, so who does good work at a reasonable price?

Alright thanks. I appreciate the offer, but you're still a little ways away from me. I know I said I wouldn't mind traveling too far but my trucks randomly stalling while driving it, so the closer the better. But I'll let you know what I end up doing. I'm still waiting on the injectors to show up too, since I had to order them. As for the truck in my avatar, that's my old '99 ha. I don't have it anymore.

Best diesel mechanic in the state, people send him vehicles from all over the country. He works at suburban ford at like 18 and van Dyke, but works at his shop in Romeo after he leaves there.

The first one is a sweet truck. And I've heard that dodge will pull the front tires off the ground.

Thanks, I've heard a lot of good things about Hallas. When I get some extra cash I want to have my trans built up there. But I'll give them a call tomorrow. I've got a couple people already I'm gonna call to see who gives me the best price.

Just sounds unusual for a pair of injectors to make the truck quit. I have a 7.3 with a bad injector and it never stalls (Haven't got to it yet, it's in a E-Van). I am not an expert, but have worked on a bunch of those. I would put a Cam sensor in that thing in a minute if is was my customer. It is real hard to diagnose those if you cannot duplicate the symptom in the shop. Just because it was replaced under the recall does not mean it will not fail again.
They may have run an Injector Balance Test on it looking for anything they may be able to find, hence the recommendation.
Good luck.

Anouther thing about changing those injectors, those are surrounded by engine oil and fuel passages. Fuel and oil runs into the cylinder when you pull the injector. Being as liquid does not compress and there is not much room in the combustion chamber, that needs to be cleared before cranking or it can cost you a rod and a piston.

Yea, that's what I was originally thinking as well. I wasn't convinced at first that a bad injector could stall it out. But I found a good mechanic a couple miles north of me who's really familiar with these motors and said it is possible. I also spoke with the tech at Pensacola were I ordered the injectors from and he also said that having one shot injector and another that only fires part time could very easily stall it out. I'm still concerned with the CPS too, but it was just replaced under recall at Ford last month with the new style sensor, so I'm just not completely convinced it could already be bad. But I should have the new injector in by tuesday or wednesday, so I guess only time will tell. I also just had a new HPOP put in, so I've already ruled that out. So hopefully these new injectors solve the problem. If not, I guess I'll be moving on to the ignition next. Thanks everyone for the help.

Hallas does some awesome work. Once I get some extra money I'd love to put them to work on my trans and some other goodies. But as far as mechanics go, I think I got one lined up, but if anything comes up, I'll let you know. But thanks for the offer. It's actually kind of funny, I've been posting some questions on thedieselstop.com, which is an all Powerstroke site, and haven't got one reply for over three days. Then on here I post something up and get instant help.

Yea, I got one mechanic I found that turned out to be only a couple miles north of me. I'm still waiting for my injectors in the mail and should hopefully have everything finished up by wednesday or thursday.
