Default Some kind of tape?

I want to paint one of my rifles camouflage, but I want to be able to take it off without sanding and rebluing the hardware. Can anyone suggest some kind of tape I can cover the barrel and reciever and such with so I wont have to strip the metal if I want to revert it?

Dont worry, this isnt some high dollar rifle I'm ruining

go to a sign shop and have them print out som camo on a vinyl sheet.

like 2"x4"

you wont have to paint it and you will be able to remove with a hair dryer.

*shrug

Also make camo duct tape but after removal would need some decent cleaning to remove the residue

I dont want just a standard camo pattern, I'm going to do it kind of like snipers do, using things in the area as "stencils."

And I did think of the duct tape, but yeah that stuffs nasty after a while and damn near irremovable after years. I had it on one of my paintball tanks that stood out too much. Still havent taken it off.

Because I'm bored. Do you really need a reason? Its just a cheap surplus rifle.

I dont care how cheap the rifle was, I dont want to have to strip and re-blue it.

Anyways, a buddy of mine thats over in Iraq told me one of his snipers uses white hockey grip tape over the barrel and any other parts that he doesnt want to sand on or whatever to create a good surface for paint. I'm going to give that a try.

sanding is very complicated and time consuming, i can see why you would want to stay away from it. what kind of rifle is it?

lul, thought this was dead.

Take a guess, I bet you know

First try didnt turn out that great. I just messed around with it to see what it would look like. Turned out a little dark, but I think it would still match well with the foliage up north around my friends house where I hunt though.
