I have to say he appears to be a total douche bag after the incident, but cops have to go with the present. And I think he was ok.

If he was say pulling into anywhere but a FREEKIN HOSPITAL I would think his judgement would have been fine. But on the bright side the officer held him long enough that he didn't have to see his mother-in-law alive that one last time and that might be a positive

Not really but in a situation like that I think a little compassion and leeway would have been in order.

Bullshit he was doing his job. Ticket was dismissed end of story.
Sad that the mom had to die, but how was the officer supposed to know? He didnt know this guy from anyone else.

Who the guy is means nothing. The fact that the guy was rushing to a hospital should have been the first clue, the second was when the guy told him he was rushing to see a dieing relative.

Yes, he was "doing his job". I think he could have done his job better by helping, rather than hindering him in getting to his dieing relative before she died.

I think he could have handled it better, but there is no reason he should be under investigation, if it was joe shmo there is no way in hell he would be suspended right now.

If you have never had to rush to a loved one's bed side your not going to understand what was going on here. This Family has been on pin and needles for months. And the last thing you want when a loved one passes is to not be there.

The officer should have walked into the hospital with them and seen for himself not hold them up and make things worse for the Family. Police officers are PUBLIC SERVENTS!! He ran a red light! he stated in the tape he slowed down and seen there was no traffic. He did not yell at the officer, he told him what was going on right away. Officer was out of line and should have offerd to help them not make things wrose.

I think that cop is a dick bag.

I think the player could have stopped to explain himself instead of continuing to drive to the hospital and I think he may have had a better chance having the cop give him an escort to the hospital.

He should have listened when he was told the first 100 times , Or when the nurses came running out and told him may have been a clue. Fire his dumb power trippin ass and hire a respectable officer.

100 times huh? He was doing his job by upholding the law. Pro football player or pro weed smoker, the law fits all the same.

Why did the guy wait for so long to see his mother in law? Why wasnt he there like everyone else?

I just watched the video again, a few thoughts.

the player was driving with his hazards on TO a hospital, he ran a red light.

From the cops perspective you have no idea what is going on, you don't know who is in the car or why, you can only assume it may be an emergency. I think that the situation could have been handled better if the player stopped immediately upon the officer turning on his lights and explaining the situation. Instead by running from the law to the hospital he created a situation where the officer did not know what to expect or why someone was running from him.

I have sped twice to get my son to the hospital, if I was to pass the law and he turned his lights on I would stop immediately and explain my situation. I would calmly explain to him why i was speeding/running red lights, etc. I think in most cases if handled that way, most cops would either escort you to the hospital or let you go. Maybe I am wrong.

With that said, I think the officer could have taken everyones ID's in the parking lot, and allowed them to go up to the hospital room, then taken them to the front desk with the ID's and a ticket if he so chose to write one.

In the heat of the moment it is hard to say how you would really handle the situation from either side.

I bet they had been there a bunch, it was they were away and got the call that it was very close to her leaving is why they were in a hurry to get back. Doctor's have ways of telling just prior to when someone is close to passing.

And even if it was a miss understanding the officer should say sorry for the trouble and offer to help them in a time like this. Cop must have been PMSing.

WTF is wrong with you? They have been back and fourth from the hospital for months, That cop has no excuse and knew what he was doing. Hell anyone with half a brain can see what was happening, Thats some good detective work there officer, And the hysterical nurses are just part of his evil plot to elude you into the hospital. Even though you are a dumb ass, I hope you never have to deal with the same thing.

The officer was out of line. Many times they seem to forget that they are here to serve and protect, not be a prick when they don't need to. If I was the guy I would have been tempted to say you'll have to shoot me in the back because I'm going to see my relative. Ticket me later.

Was he doing his job? Yes.
Was he a prick when he shouldn't have? Yes.
Should he be reprimanded? At least get a warning.
