Default OUCH!!! Transmission bill...*UPDATED with installed tranny*

Ok, so my trans has but hunting or "shuttle shifting" from 1-2 for a few weeks now. Dodge has a TSB out for exactly this problem. Went to the dealer this morning to have it fixed.....well, there were chunks of a C-Clip in the pan. BIG chucks! Needless to say, I told them not to replace the $500 worth of parts.

So now I have ordered an HTS Ultimate Duty Trans with Billet Flex Plate, Billet One-Piece Input shaft and a Suncoast Triple Disk Torque Converter. Good for BIG power and over 20K lbs pulling.

Go on monday to get it, I cant wait! And HTS is outta Lowell MI, so I am supporting the local economy!

Cool, you will be ready to roll some coal now. Also, should see better driveability and MPG, when not racing d-max's and peestrokes.

Well, people claim 2-3 mpg when easy on it. This is because of a tighter converter = less heat = less waisted power = more mpg.

You will like it, as soon as the wallet recovers.

Never mind I found it...just to let ya know this is not a factory or even a transmission shop! This is some guy building transmissions out of a pole barn or something because there are no businesses located up in that neighborhood, it is all residential. Thats why I never heard of them before, Lowell is a real small town and I know every store and shop. I live about a mile from this place so if you would like maybe I could stop by and check it out and make sure everything is on the up and up before Ya spend a bunch of money!

LOL. You are trying to make it sound like "some guy building transmissions out of a pole barn or something", is a bad thing.

Consider this. The guy that works by himself, has no time for comebacks, and relies only on word of mouth. (or he's such a prick, that nobody will work with him, that's my excuse)

x2

One of the most well known and best tranny guys on this message board did tranny's right out of his garage for a long time, now he lives far far away and people still ship their tranny's to him to get them built.

If the guy makes good shit he makes good shit.

Alright if his rep is good then his rep is good! I was just saying I live within a mile of him and never heard of him. And I was willing to go check it out and make sure everything was on the up and up before someone spent $3500 dollars...just trying to look out for people is all. but if people are happy with his work then I guess there is no need huh!

PS: Does anyone know if he does other kinds of transmissions or does he just do transmissions for diesels?

Hasn't HTS been in quite a few national magazines and things for the super good trans? I seem to think I've heard of them.

His work is EXTREMELY well known on all the diesel boards. People routinely order transmissions from him that cost way more than $4500. He is considered one of the top sources of trannys for the high horsepower crowd.

"YOU never heard or him"
That is because people that know their shit and are really good at something specific do not waste money on local ads. He runs ads in a diesel quaterly publication, that is how I found him 20 miles from me. Some of the most talented guys I know work out of a polebarn, no sign, just word of mouth.

Mine has been hunting between 1-2 under light load also ('04 WJ) for the past several months after getting it soaked while out on the trails with Rubiclone and a few others. Now you have me worried I killed something.

It took two trans flushes, but at least it rarely does it anymore, but still has me a bit worried.

like everyone has already said, his rep is what I am going by, not a fancy glass front office space. there are guys from texas, florida, californina....hell even hawaii and alaska that have ordered trannys from HTS (Dusty) and just praise his product.

I talked to him on the phone yesterday for about 45 minutes, he told me all of the shit that dodge does in the 48RE that are wrong, goofy or just plain stupid and what he does to fix ALL of the issues so that you are rolling out of there with a bullet proof tranny.

the torque converter is 1300, so the tranny with the upgrades is actually only about 3200.
I appreciate the offer Disturban, but I will trust what the masses have already spoken for.
BTW, if anyone is in the area of Lowell on monday I have to be there between 1 and 2 pm for my install if you wanna come down and shoot the shit with me and dusty. I am hoping to learn a thing or 2 about tranny's.
I gots lots of questions
