the only problem is that that is not what the initial question was it was Franzen or Hossa. Not who's the best in the league or who's the best prospect. I would love to discuss how awesome it's going to be to have Vile Leino up here full time but that's for another time.

I would take Hossa over most people on both these lists.

I'm a fan of Franzen's, but given the choice i gotta go with Hossa. He just seems to get the goals and is big enough to be a presence on the defensive end. I have not been a fan in the past of big so-called "stars" coming to the Wings (i.e. Bertuzzi) but Hossa doing a good job and I think he has an edge on Franzen.

But if I had to get rid of someone it would be Lilja on Defense....man, I think he just makes too many mistakes, slow, no stick handling and is a crappy fighter. I hear he's a nice guy though.

On offense i would cut loose Samuelson, he just never panned out in my opinion. Lots of shots on goal, but not many pay off. Plus he is a detriment on the defensive end...a good 3rd liner, but thats it.

Its a tuffy, Franzen scores goals and it seems like Hossa makes goals happen, whether he scores or not someone does because of a pass or deflection that he has made, I think the Wings will end up keeping them both, especially if they win this year, because everyone wants to play for a winning club. Wings players have been taking pay cuts to allow other players to stay and i think that is a major reason that they keep winning, they realize that its not always about the money (granted they are all getting paid very well). But, id say Hossa has more potential for continued improvement. Which is hard to say because i love Franzen

Lilja gets a lot of heat because offensively he is horrible, but he is far and away our best shot blocker and a real big asset on the PK and in our own end. The problem is that the Wings spend a lot of time in their opponents end so his lack of offensive skill gets magnified while his defense goes largely unnoticed.

Simply looking at the way they play the game I'd have to give the edge to Hossa also. He can make things happen, great stick handling and a helluva shot. Franzen is more of the opportunist, his build lets him hang out around the net and pick up on rebounds then he shows his ability to control the puck in close quarters. The problem is guys like this need to work together Hossa needs a franzen to pick up on the rebounds and franzen needs a Hossa to create those opportunities. So now the question becomes who is more valuable and the answer is Hossa. We allready have Holmstrom (when healthy), Cleary and even Hulder is proving that he can swoop in and put the rebounds in the back of the net. So you sign Hossa, and just see if Franzen's agents give a little when he hits free agency, and if not he will never be as good as he has been the last two years, playing with the wings does make you that much better.
Sorry that was so long.
