from what i have heard there is no such thing. All four wheeled vehicles must have certain safety equipment, such as seat belts, in order to be street legal. they must also be registered, licensed and insured. not sure if there are any loopholes.

ON road? No.

Along the shoulder of selected roads in select counties during daylight hours at a speed of less than 25 MPH? Sometimes.

no. They do not meet definitions for car or motorcycle and can't be licenced.

where are you in the state? because there are "open counties" that allow travel on road shoulders. see the rules & regs sections please.

So tell me how LEO's handle this:
My motorhome is licensed in Michigan. It's a 33,000 lb Freightliner Class 8 truck with air brakes. Under Michigan law I do not need a CDL license or an air brake endorsement as it's classified as a recreational vehicle. I can drive this vehicle across the country and even in Canada without any additional licenses other than my standard Michigan drivers license.

Now, A quad is a street licensed vehicle in Minnesota and I think Virginia, plus a few others. So why can't a user drive them here under the same clause that allows me to drive a Class 8 truck?

There is a federal law that state clearly that ANY state that "plates" a vehilce for street travel it will carry over to the other 49 & US territories....However. if you read the law its vague on the facts about everthing being D.O.T. spec. I know for a fact I can licence in AZ. that by itself make it easy. they don't require any mods other then a rear veiw mirror on one side. so that being said they don't need roofs and windshields and turn signals. they don't even require dot tires there.

heres the trick. 29% of the state population own and run quads or other orvs on the street.

...that = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

oh yeah, the Motor home laws allow any driver to use a truck hauling a single trailer up to a total length of 65' also. the only requirement is the "not for hire" sign on the drivers door. double trailers require a recreational "a" on your licence.
