Default Glock 23, thoughts?

Anybody own/shot one? Thoughts?

Just got my tax return, and will be purchasing a pistol. I should be starting the police academy this summer, and I turn 21 in August. I feel that this would be a good choice for carrying, but still having a decent size/full grip for the academy.

I like the way my dad's Glock 27 shoots, is this comparable? I realize it's the same caliber, but in terms of recoil and things?

http://www.glock.com/english/glock23_tech.htm

Thanks!

Thanks. How about size, is it hard to conceal?

My Glock 23 share's the same holster's as my S&W Sigma 9mm, and other "compact" pistols in that size range.

Without going "sub-compact" they're pretty much similar in size. Ypsi PD carries 23's.

I'm not a gun person by any means but I have the 17 and I love it.... I would NOT carry it though because there isnt much of a safety on it, not sure how the one is that you're looking at but I hate the "safety" on mine.

Glock's are great guns, I would also suggest trying any of the Springfield Armory XD's. I have 4 XD's in differing variations. I love them. I shot my Dad's service glock 22 and will take my XD any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

you don't really want a saftey when you carry. you need a point and pull

Default My second favorite gun.....

I have a Glock 23 & love it. It's just big enough to make the grip comfortable yet small enough for concealed carry. For it's size and the type of sights, accuracy is unbelievable.

Cheap ammo. runs through it very well.

I used to own a 19 & loved that one, too, but it was a bit too large for concealed carry.

look it up glock 19 and 23 are the same dimensions, i find both uncomfortable for concealed carry. the handle hits my chair when i sit down, i would definatly recommend the 27 over the 23 if you plan to carry, or any "sub-compact" for that matter, i carry my 27 sometimes, but my favorite carry (so far) is my springfield xd 40 sub compact. i shot all of them when i went to purchase, i also liked the s&w m&p 40 sub compact, it comes with extra grips in the kit to fit your hand.

I like the S&W M&P most departments are going to the M&P as a duty weapon so depending on what department you are going to I would look into it.

The only thing that kept me from buying a M&P when I purchased my .40 XDM was the hinge trigger. I rented the M&P and could not get used to it.

Got some extra meat on my bones. So cool.

Thanks everyone for the input, I'm pretty set on Glock. Looks like I'll go with this one - should be buying it this week.

easier to hide a little gun on a big guy than a little gun on a little guy. are you familiar with gunbroker? they have a excellent selection of glocks on there.

Haha right. I just checked out gunbroker - most of them are selling for about what I can get a new one from my local place with the public safety discount. Thanks though, appreciate it.
