Default GOMI Toyota

So, I have been SLOWLY working on a new project.
3 yrs ago - Warhof gave up a 4runner frame - http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthread.php?t=55890 - so I took it and stashed it away.. then my rally race team manager pass off a hit 84 solid axle plow truck.
This POS didn't run at all and was so rotted out with rust I'm surprised it didn't fall apart.
When no-one wanted to buy the parts, i rebuilt the weber carb and decided it would be a great toy to give my old-man for his retirement so he can come wheeln' with us - and not give a $hit about breaking it.

It has become a collection of more and more junk - that when built up- makes a great junk truck - "GOMI" style - its a Japanese word = Gomi is a slang word meaning trash or junk. It’s originally a Japanese word for dust or garbage, but it’s now used to describe anything that we discard or no longer value. GOMI strives to give renewed life and purpose to existing materials and technologies, so it is obviously pro-recycle and pre-cycle. GOMI materials were consumer goods - perhaps they’re past their obvious prime, but still useful and viable.

So, I kicked up the build and hope to debut early april - either Silver lake - or Attica...

For now, my long term goal is to make it a long travel IFS. Jumping junk that can take most trails and drive home.

What I started with... It had a wood bed

engine swap into Warhof's perfect colorado frame

Cab swapped over..

ALT fuel cell mounted - Sitting in Scubarunner's shop ( Thanks my friend )

Made some long shackels untill I get the Chevy or Deaver springs

The floor was so wasted, I had to cut it out and frame out for a new floor -
I got some added clearance for the 33"s

Master Plan - start and exo cage , Dual Spare tires and a light box

And since the rockers were also rotted - I'll put in some 2x4 sliders...

Im going to fab a Jig so that I can make my own design long arms..
Like a JD or Total Chaos kit..

And yes.. I was at Sno*Drift..but we didn't run, I was spectating for the 1st time in many many years..We did just run 100AW in Missouri. we got snow there also.... If you noticed an all white 08' STI - it was built locally and the fab work is fantastic... I helped some, can't take much credit.
Lengeracing.com built it - amazing guy - brilliant fab skills.

i dig the gomi thing. its a natural for offroad - being made up of reused bits, its also desintegrating as you use it. then whats left gets put into the next version, and so on and so on -

nice to see something different cooking.

So a HUGE thanks to Brett for helping me , allowing this disaster of a project to occur.

OK... so now I have to make sure the body get back into something resembling true and square.. its still needs the doors to shut,

So I measure it all out... and true it out with bottlejacks.

Now I gotta support these rocker rails.. so I wanted more then just some pipe.. I made some quick PITA bent detail supports.. The will look cool... but wow - I don't know if i'll to that again on such a trivial part.

Symmetrical - check ! Thats always a good sign.

And for the front, something easy - no one will see them anyway....

Special thanks to my wife for being so pacient with me

Floor coming together..

So, Ya gotta keep some structure in that floor... Lord knows I'm not gonna bead-roll

So..In order to simplify the tail lamp wiring, I'll just run 4 lamp assemblies.. and I'll fab up a 3rd lamp mount

The Hoop still needs to be sorted out..

Yeah - all the messing around with the rust repair / floors / Rocksliders, and the doors only needed a 1/4" shaved on the front of the drivers door..
