Took it out for a drive today. getting a lot of rust in my fuel filter and clogging it. Probably just gonna pick up a new one. Carb has developed a leak after sitting awhile gotta get that fixed. lots to do still.

Worked on the jeep today. put new gaskets in my leaky carb (thanks Brian for the advice) and swapped out the old, rusty, leaky gas tank for a new one. its nice to see clear instead of red fuel going to the carb.
out with the old...
[IMG][/IMG]
in with the new and rust problem solved.
[IMG][/IMG]
The stock fuel tank has a capacity of 11 gallons, not gonna last too long feeding a sbc. So Im thinking of adding another tank to supplement my fuel needs. Picked up a plastic jerry can from the local military surplus store I plan to run a fuel line with cut-off valve from the jerry can to the fuel tank.
[IMG][/IMG]
Had to solder in some brass fittings for the fuel line and breather hose.
[IMG][/IMG]
Possible mount location for jerry can.

Is your steering hooked up? I've been thinking about swapping a 4.3 in a cj2, but not sure what other flatty builders do about steering box location.

Steering is hooked up. Currently Im using the origional ross set up. so no steering mods yet. I do plan to go to the power saginaw set up. check out Early cj5, lots of flatties on that site.

Been working on the project steadily. Mostly electrical stuff, hooked up new LED taillights, head lights and running. Still working on turn signal, found an old rotted cj5 out out behind our property up north, scavenged and cleaned up the turn signal I ripped off it. gotta figure out how this thing hooks up to the new harness.

I will have your carb finished tomorrow Shane. Worst carb I have seen yet. The rust pored out of it!
This was a clean pan when I started. All of this just fell out of the bowls.

Gonna switch it over to a quick change secondary diaphram since this one is trashed.

Just make sure that filter isnt letting anything thru it! Flush out the line before bolting the carb back on as well. Should be good as new tomorrow.

No new news on my truck. Still running fine and the smell is gone now...

Way behind in my posting. Heres some updates.
Got a best top tiger top.
[IMG][/IMG]

Did some work under the hood.
Added an electric water pump
some march serpentine pulleys with alternator and saggy pump brackets.
Got tired of dealing with my old holly street carb and went to a holly truck avenger
went to a square bore edlebrock intake
planning to convert to power steering in the near future.
Heres an update pic of the engine bay.

Thanks, no miles at all. Had the carb issues that kept me in the drive way. plan to have it ready to wheel by mid october. Gotta do a small body lift to accommodate the taller carb, convert to power steering and go to hydraulic clutch.

Figure i should update this build thread. With the help of deathbypsi, I finally have this jeep tuned in and running smooth. Thanks again Brian. I finished my saggy swap, probably the largest driver comfort improvement I've made. I also went to a hydraulic clutch set up. Little improvements have made this thing fun to drive. We all like pics, so here you go.

Plenty to do still. I have to finish the roll cage, clean up, prime and paint. Gotta fix the sheet metal, straighten, fill in holes, apply por15, prime and paint it "harvest tan" . I have yet to instal shocks and Im missing a speedo, fuel and oil pressure gages. I would like to add a winch, a nt d44 with selectable locker in the rear and narrow 35" mud terrain tires.
