alright, its your truck. do what you want. but i hope the engine you put in does not require too much chassi mod.

still sounds pretty cool

According to novak jeep conversions there shouldnt be too many chassy mods just new engine mounts and Im opting to box the frame. Not too noticable. this makes me feel better about the who sbc thing. Im mking progress but I keep forgetting to take my camera for pics.
So far engine is painted going back together tommorow. Ordering headers tommorow. gotta get an intake and carb. Edlebrock or Holly not sure. Imput is welcome.

Your an even bigger idiot if your trusting someone that wants to sell you something. Search around on pirate a bit and you will see that any early jeep that has had a V8 put in and wheels breaks the frame eventually.

Not only will you be hacking the frame, but you will be hacking into the firewall, grill, and fenderwells. There is NO room in a flatfender engine bay. My PS pump clears by less then 1/8" on my V6. 99grandTJ had to cut out most of the floor as well when he tried to do a 360 in a CJ3B

A decent condition column shift jeep you could sell and buy 2 rougher more common CJ2A's to cut up. They can be quite valuable to the early guys. I am sure there are guys that would trade you on The CJ2A page just to see it not cut up.

I've got an old cj2a tub in my barn that had a 350 in it. I'd wonder if you're gonna lose the column shift to fit that engine in, because there's a big old hole in the firewall.

It's your Jeep. Cut the bastard in half and send it to scrap if you want.

If the purists wan to save every Jeep out there, they probably should buy them all or STFU.

Thank you. My thoughts exactly. I will continue to post my progress for the enjoyment of those who like these kinds of builds.

Quick update: cleaned, preped and painted the engine, it took about 3 days. I used por15s engine paint kit. I ended up with a nice paint job. Got my headers in yesterday. Ordered a new intake today, not sure which carb I want edelbrock or holly, more research to do. I plan to get rid as much emmissions stuff as I can. Haven't found valve covers that I liked yet. Ill probly clean, paint and put the old ones back on for now. Should have the engine together for the most part by next tuesday.

Cut whatever JEEP you want in half, just not a rare WILLYS

Wouldn't be to bad if you can keep the column shift

I want to put a flat head ford v8 in a old willys, think it would be sweet

Shane, I would just pick up a 600 Holley carb. They are much easier to work on and modify. I hate Edelbrocks. You can find cheap used Holleys all over for pennies and if you dont know how I can go through it a rebuilt it for ya. I love Holley carbs and have built a TON of them.

the collum setup is compact and simple. I should have no problem keeping it.
Not real familiar with a flat head 8. seems like it would be massive.

if your going to be doing alot of wheeling i would either buy a brand new holly truck avenger or find an old quadra jet and buy a rebuild kit for it. i run a quadra jet on my 383 small block chevy and it takes angles very well, best carb i ever used offroad.ive never owned a holly truck avenger, but i hear nothing but good things about it.

Ya it is over weight and not a ton of power but it would be retro mod.

X2 on a Holley truck avenger if you plan to wheel it

I really dont plan to wheel this thing a lot or hard at all I have a 86 cj for that. Its mainly for the trails and farting around the property up north maybe cruising around when its nice out. I have a quadra jet for it but im looking to get rid of the emmissions junk. Im thinking a good after market carb and intake would do that for me. far as holly goes, thats probly what im gonna do. ive heard nothing but good about them.

update: ordered new springs from super lift the other day. I expect to get those next week some time. Mean while Ive been painting some odds and ends. Getting the seats ready for re-appolster. I had to rip out the sheet metal for the seat backing - it was rusted beyond repair - time to weld in new metal. took out the old engine mounts and welded in the new ones.

if you think a V8 sounds cool, you should hear a flathead 4.

Your comment about maybe going back to stock some day is a little off. You will have to mod almost every part foreward of and including the firewall to the point that there wont be any going back. Like what was said above, it's your jeep, do what you want, bud dont kid yourself into thinking you will be able to go back to stock easily.
