Well, if its painted, its not a tarp - its a canvas.

That would make it a banner.

Good post Bruce. First and foremost we need to remember we are there to pay respects/ provide peace to a fallen soldier and his family.

If we have enough people and flags we wont need any tarps. Just sheer numbers will hide them.

Is anyone making signs? I only have the 2 we made the other day. I also have a few 3'x5' flags to donate.

Let me ask you this in reply. Would you want a tarp at a funeral for a loved one? We are trying to block the protesters, not call attention to ourselves. The flags and the numbers I think will do the trick.
I still have not heard back from Lansing PD, but I will keep you posted on how they feel about this.

That sounds like a good idea..

So that means, we will need some big trucks, especially the full size rig crew

FYI, the Patriot Guard is still waiting on a reply from the family spokesperson on how they wish for us to proceed. Also have not heard from the Lansing PD on what they are planning so they (Patriot Guard) are in a holding pattern right now. Neither the PD or the funeral home had any idea of the WBC's plans for a protest.

Will keep you posted.

I hope this is just involving the motorcycles, and not us...
What do you guys make of this?

I just received this:
from: bobmeinet on 11/23/2005 11:51 AM

Please let everyone know that Pastor Bryan George called me at 11:45am today and asked that we NOT ATTEND the services. I will post an explanation next Sunday explaining why this request was made by the family.

Pastor George also asked me to relay his and the family's heartfelt thanks for making them aware of WBC's plans.

He said the family is very pleased that we wished to show support in their time of loss.

My view is that this is a mission accomplished since we prevented a problem.

Please let all your contacts know that the family has asked that we NOT ATTEND the services on Saturday.

CC,
I talked to Bob a few minutes ago, the family is asking that everyone stays away. They wish to keep this lowkey, and private. We should respect their wishes. They do NOT want any counter protesters there on Saturday at the funeral.

I hope that the family is able to mourn in peace. BTW, I read that there was a Millington solider killed earlier this week. In the event that this organization chooses this funeral, you guys are welcome to meet at our place to mobilize. We are about 10 miles South of Millington.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of any fallen hero. God Speed.

What do we make of it? I think the family is:

1. Doing what they want and probably not considering the soldier.
2. Assuming that the Patroit Guard is some bunch of ugly, smelly, bikers that will become a civil disruption.
3. Clueless about what they are to be subjected to.

That was a request sent to the Patriot Guard for the Patriot Guard itself not to attend. I didn't know that GL was part of the Patriot Guard. I doubt the Phelps crew will be cancelling.

So be it, but this has been a lesson to me about the potential ignorance of family members. I will be very specific in my will and wil probably compose a notarized letter of intent to be distributed to my unit and other private parties to ensure that nobody ever does anything like that to me.

I will honor the request, but I wonder if the family thinks these protesters won't, and we only planed to set walls

So you know, the PD states that the wbc do not have a permit to picket at this time. The LT of the PD stated, not permit, no picket. They will not allow them to be there either.

From what I understand, the Rev. stated the family doesn't want anyone there, but you guys make your own decisions.

Being that I am a member of the Patriot Guard site, I can't really say that I think people should go. However, individuals will always do as they please.

Okay, as promised, here is how the family handled the possibility of a wbc protest at their sons funeral last Sat. in Lansing.

The local Police Dept. and funeral home were contacted by the Patriot Guard to let them know of the wbc's proposed protest. The LT. I spoke with in Lansing, asked a lot of questions, including the website for these clowns. He then contacted the sheriff, local pd, and state on this.
The property owners all up and down the street let the PD know that they were not allowing wbc protesters onto their property, that they would press trespassing charges on them. The PD also closed down all parking on both sides of the street for a few blocks around the church. So the wbc had not place to park, no place to stand, and no media to see them if they were there. The wbc was informed of this by the PD in advance of Sat.
Bottom line is, the wbc did NOT show up for this protest, instead, they moved onto a funeral in another state where the people did not band together like this community did.

The family wished for all those who offered their support to know how much it was appriciated. They are aware of our offer of support, and are glad to know how many people are proud of what their son did.

Just thought you might want to know.
