Find out if its stock or built? how much does he want? does it have a clear title? you can pick up a clean one for $1500 to $2500 off of craigslist. If its stock make sure it hasnt been abused or you will be rebuilding soon!!! if its been built find out what EXACTLY has been done (port and polished, new pistons, clutch, etc.) other than that if it runs good go for it. If its your buddy hope you can trust him! Good luck i miss my shee

check the compression on it for shits and giggles. i wanna say it should be around 90 psi on both cylinders, i think thats what my 06 is. also like stated before, if any mods are done, make sure you find out everything, and ask what jetting is it it, and wat temps and altitueds it is jetted for to get an idea of what changes may need to be made.

use good oil such as belray or klotz r50
i used klotz beanol mixed 40-1 one bottle to 5 gal of gas ran it hard as hell for2 years and never had a problem also ran another banshee on belray same way for 3 years......it will cut down on fouled plugs and run alot better ... banshee is a great quad and you will love it

ya i run my banshee 40:1 with klotz benol, keeps shit clean and smells awesome, but its expensive, think its like 11 bucks a pint, btw. only thing about benol is dont run it in the winter, it separates and will not function as a lubricant any longer

the reason alot of them smoke is that modern oil can be mix at 40:1, 50:1, and theres even an oil i used that is recomended at 100:1 but the owners manuals say to mix at like 26:1 which with todays oils is way too much and thus causes smoke, also most quad that have self mixing system mix it at a bads ratio.

as far as what too look for:
for $1000 bucks for an 01 if it runs its worth it.
banshee take alot of kicks to start with low comp. so if it starts right up it should be good.

on a side note ill give you $1000.01 for it

hell for that price even if it needs a top end you can get a wiseco top end rebuild kit for less than 400 bucks i think, so when you think about it, a 1400 good condition banshee is still cheap

x2 on the compression check, but it should be about 130 psi per cylinder, not 90. if it has high compression domes ie: a cool head it will be higher, make sure both cylinders are the same (or close ) for $1000 if it runs and drives your good on the price, but from the way it sounds you dont know alot about working on stuff, so i would buy this and either sell it or trade it for a reliable four stroke machine for less maintence and easier turn key operation. just my .02
