Default 97 Dodge Truck Reverse Clunk?

I have a 98 dodge truck 5.9. ext cab 4x4 long box.When you go from drive to reverse there is loud clunk sounds like its coming from the t-case area. All u-joints are good.any thoughts?

backlash in the rear. common on 9.25's from everyone i've seen. put the truck in neutral and see how much you can turn the driveshaft each way. should be very little play.

could also be the reverse band going in the transmission my buddy had to adjust it his 98 ram was doing the same thing until the reverse was no more
