1978 jeep cj7 (major rebuild or parts vehicle)

Im putting this up for my pastor. Its a 1978 jeep cj7. 304, t-176, dana 300. has a soft top. alot of new odds and ends such as radiator, alternator, new clutch, new fluids, new u-joints in rear. Body is in decent shape for the year. it has some dents and scratchs but its solid. floors under carpet are pretty shot. The frame shows age and has some patches here and there but is solid that i know of. mild lift with bigger tires (not sure on size for either) Its been his daily driver for the past year. I think the main shaft bearings in the tranny are out and the main shaft may be worn by now. There is also something going in the rear end, probably be easier just swaping out with another narrow amc than figuring out whats wrong. Its not perfect. I would cosiderate as a rebuild project or at least fix it up a bit before driving it. make any offer on it and i'll let him know. PM for his name, number, and email.

REFER TO BIGBLOCKS POST ON SECOND PAGE FOR REASONS WHY ITS BEEN LABELED A PARTS JEEP OR MAJOR REBUILD. SORRY FOR ANY INCOVIENCE MADE THUS FAR.

Even if it needs repairs, it doesn't look too bad from these pics and probably wouldn't be a bad start for someone that wants a CJ with a decent drivetrain. It does have a lot of different stuff from all different years - both before and after 1978. I see 6-bolt hubs on the front axle. If the axles are original to the vehicle (1978), they will most likely be the big rotors with 6-bolt caliper brackets and the big 11" drums in the rear.

Not bashing a seller but want to warn those interested that this is a parts jeep only. 60 bucks in gas gives me the right to comment.

IM not quite sure. i would consider rebuilding it my self. its not pretty i guess and it has mechanical issues but if some one doesnt mind spending some time on a project to rebuild i think its pretty nice. its got a killer drivetrain in it for a jeep. 304, t-176, and dana 300. thats worth good money alone. That tranny needs some work but a little time and money and you get a great driveline. i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

jeep

so is my offer out of the question? If so I guess i could go take a look but it looks rough in the pics. and pics usually make things look better than they actually are.

Where do I start. First of all I realize that your not going to get much for 2 grand but this jeep isn't worth 600 bucks. Not one body panel that wasn't laid in with about 1/2" filler (10 years ago). Frame was gone and I mean gone, someone attempted to weld some of the spring perches back in place and blew rust holes through that you could stick dimes through. Thats how bad the frame is. Floors are gone. Seats rock back like a rocker. Center tunnel was scabbed with a different tunnel screwed in place to flaky rust. Rear end is shot. Trans is shot in first through third. T case winds like no other I have heard. Someone at some time forgot to latch the hood and was suddenly reminded at 40 mph. The thing that pissed me off was that the guy told my buddy (who was the one interested) that it was totally road worthy and could be driven back to Waterford. Bullshit!! I wouldn't trust it to go to the corner store.

Rebuildable? Sure if you have a frame, body and rebuild every component in the drivetrain.

Again, I'm not trying to start an argument or stir the pot. This is the way I see it. Personally, I would (and should have) offered 500 bucks.

In that case, I have a 1986 CJ frame available for cheap that might be good to go with it.
