Default Another winch question - synthetic rope size / length?

I've got a 6,000lb Ramsey winch on my XJ that has the original 1/4" steel cable on it. The site says it holds 100' of 1/4". I know 1/4" seems small, but at 9,000lbs capacity, it's over twice the weight of a loaded XJ. I'm thinking I should upgrade to at least 5/16 Amsteel or Gorilla or something comparable with a 12,000lb capacity. The only problem with going to 5/16 or 3/8" is I lose length capacity. I know you can buy extensions (or use a buddies).

Should I
a) stick with the 1/4" x 100' with a 9,000lb capacity, or
b) upgrade to 5/16" x 70' with a 12,000+lb capacity, or
c) upgrade to 3/8" x 50' with 15,000lb capacity

Time for opinions!

Thanks!

6,000 pounds is a pretty light winch for a cherokee. I can tell you I broke 5/16 amsteel blue winching a rock buggy so that would be the lightest I would go. Currently I have 80' of 3/8".

Yeah, I know 6,000 isn't the best for a Cherokee, but it was a great price for a good winch (even though a bit small) so I figured better than nothing until I can buy something bigger.

Honestly, I don't do rocks or anything too crazy so I only need it to pull myself out of the occational ditch or when I high center or something along those lines....I can't imagine needing more than 12,000lbs (using 1 block).

So you say 5/16" or 3/8" for sure......gotcha.
