Default 3-link front end ?'s

i am tearing out my current front end and looking to fab up a 3 link with a trac bar. i dont thinkk it has any bearing, but im running coilovers

questions:

1) similar to a 4 link, does the upper link need to be about 70% of the lower length?

2) does the upper need to be "triangulated" somewhat, or paralell to the jeep?

3) my trac bar needs to approx anme length and angle as the draglink with jeep sitting on the level, right?

any help is appreciated, thanks guys!

front link can be parallel no need for triangulation

trac bar should as long as you can get it and parallel with the drag link. YES

same length i thought from what i remember hell i dont know ask hagger or 95 geo they are more into the 3 link stuff

Flatter/longer is better, but try and match your drag link length and angle. Packaging stuff is the hardest part, so do what you can. Everything is a compromise.

do you even need a track bar if the upper link is a wishbone with poly bushings on the end?

Wouldn't think so. Naturally, you'd want a full hydro setup not to have bumpsteer....

that it what i have now, it sucks, the bump steer is so bad im just gonna start over.

you could minimize it if you were able to get a long, flat drag link. it'd be no different than a stock leaf spring front end in terms of bump steer.

go radius arms (y links), they are easy to setup articulate quite well, then just run an adjustable trackbar, can't get any easier than that.( this is how mine is setup and I have been running like that for ~4 years now)

that is the worst advice you could give.... a 3 link will out perform a radius arm setup 10 fold and all that is invilved is ONE frame side mount.

True. Also the reason vehicles like the YJ started going with a track bar with leafs.

answers:

1)still waiting, i assume seperation of upper and lower links similar to 4 link need to be .25 x tire diameter, and try to stay close to 70% of lower link length.

2) link can be paralell to jeep, to reduce binding between trac bar and upper link

3) trac bar similar angle and length to draglink

sort of, the length of the upper arm will depend on what kind of pinion angle change you are looking for as the suspension travels. the three link will act similiar to how a 4 link does.

the lastest version of the 4-link calc does pinion angle change over travel

what I did was to put in the numbers from my 3-link into this to be able to check how much pinion angle there would be from the side view. I just copied the single upper link measurements into both fields. The AS% value and pinion info carries over between 3 and 4-link, but the roll center and roll axis do not.
