Anybody ever weighed their truck?

Im looking to find out where I am with my GAWR and GVWR. Any tips on where to go to drive each axle on a scale? Scrap yard or landscape rocks dealer maybe?

The best place is on the highway at the truck scales. I think they charged me $25.

I would trust the Cat scales better more a scrap yard or recycling center. We have a recycling center here that leaves the scales on all of the time and the gate is at the far end of the scale. That is what I use mostly.

Cat brand scales = $8.50 - edit: they just bumped the price up to $9.00
Interstate brand scales = $8.00
Flying J brand scales = $8.00

I'm a truck driver and use scales several times a week. The scales have 3 (sometimes 4) different pads. You put your steer tires on the front pad, the drive tires on the 2nd pad, trailer tires will be on the back pad(s). You will get a ticket showing each axle weight, plus a total certified weight.

Here's how you do it:

http://www.catscale.com/howtoweigh.cfm

When they ask for a truck number, just tell them it's a personal vehicle.

Just load some scrap, go to the scrap yard, they'll weight you going in and going out. Just subtract your personal weight and there you go.. And you'll have some money from scrap, too.

heres what i ended up doing. Altho I didnt unhook the trailer - 4 wheels on the scale (plus empty car hauler tongue) came in at 8250. I do wish I would have paid attention to each axle weight tho.

On a side note, scrap price(whole car) bottom has fallen out. I only got $85/ton. O well...

Yes, but don't stay parked on the scale while you go in, as you'll have some very unhappy drivers wanting to use the scale waiting for you when you get back out!

BTY, Cat just bumped their price up to $9 a few days ago.

Also, you can re-weigh the same truck/trailer combo within 24 hours for only $1. You have to go to the same scale, and have the first weigh ticket (or at least the ticket number) to get the reweigh for a buck. You can even re-weigh several times if you want/need to for just $1 each time.

I use our local co-op they leave their scales on all the time. The display can be read through the window. I go after hours as to not bother anyone.

I use the local Cat Scale at the truck stop and we have access to a mobil set of DOT scales that we use for our TRUCK-Tug-A-Wars, both tell me pretty close to each other what my truck weighs
