Default Ford D35 gears all the same?

I want to change the 3.73 gears in my 1990 TTB D35 front axle to a set of 4.10's. Do the IFS D35's used in the 98+ RBV use the same ring and pinions as the older TTB d35's? Im getting ready to put my 8.8 together and want to put 4.10's in the 8.8 and then find some used 4.10's for the d35.

Thats weird cuz Motive Gear's website only shows one part number for all Ford D35 axles.I just wanted to see if anyone had swapped them before.

I've always been under the impression that the TTB's were High pinion, and the 98+ is low pinion. But I've never actually goten a look at the newer ones.

Yes I believe you are correct about that but would that make them different gears? If the spot the pinion rides the ring gear is different {high vs low} that shouldnt require a different gear set I would think.

Man I need to find out for sure cuz I found a screaming deal on two sets of 4.10's out of a 97 Ex

Yep, if it is indeed correct that would hold true. The Low pinion D35 sets should be the same as rear D35 jeep sets. High pinion's cannot be installed into low pinion housings and vice versa, their teeth simply won't mesh, at all.

Well now that's good news for you! They changed the Explorer suspension in 1995 to the style that would later came to the Rangers in '98+. They will work just dandy.

the Low pinion D35 gears from a '97 explorer will NOT fit a 90 TTB D35 which is high pinion.

Call a junk yard, get a D35 TTB third member with a 4:10 and it will be a bolt in swap, probably for less than the gearset alone new.

I thought we were talking about a '99?

*edit: WTF... I read through that several times and missed that it was the first thing he said. and it even says in his signature that the 99 already has 4.10's...

Well fukc me.. god I hope he didn't go out and buy them yet... I need to learn how to read...

No I didnt!

I talked to Superior Gear today and they said they are a different gear set and didnt know why their site along everyone else lumps them all together. Its a reverse High pinion gear set.

I think I mite just g for the 4.56 anyway now after I have driven it more out in some deep snow. 4hi is useless and 4low is better but I think the 4.56 would be better on the trans.
