Default '97 Kawasaki KX100 (added pics 2-1-09) SOLD

I've got a '97 KX100 I outgrew long ago. Its in okay shape. Gear box is completely rebuilt. Rest was a work in progress. I replaced throttle and brake cables. It has very few hours on a rebuild, but it blew up so it needs a top end rebuild. I couldn't find an air filter for a long time so it has a Spektra cone air filter on it instead. It also needs the shocks rebuilt. Still has good tires. I've put over $400 into it so far, plus buying it. I've gotten very little use from it myself.

Asking $400

SOLD FOR $250

Will come with extra misc. parts including ratio-rite cup, oil, plugs, and I also have the stock air box and extra muffler packing.

Curious - what did you do to consider the gearbox completely rebuilt? Do you have the stock airBOX?
What "blew up"? (seized?)

Had clutch rebuilt just before I bought it. I replaced a bad 1-2 shaft, replaced 2 gears(one was stuck on 1-2 shaft, one got hit by the stuck one), replaced all bearings that even showed the least bit of wear, replaced seals.

Like I said, the upper end needs rebuilt. It turns over fine, even starts, but it blew the rings. And yes, I have the stock air box. When I went to get a filter for it, it was going to take 2 weeks everywhere and I needed it right away. Oh yeah, it also has a new kick-start lever because the old one fell off somewhere.

What does it mean to blow rings? I'm trying to decide if we need another KX around the place...

They melted and/or broke. Basically, you need to take the cylinder to a machine shop, have them clean it up or bore it out, and replace the piston and rings. It may just need rings, I don't have time to pull it all out and look. But it starts so I doubt there is too much damage.

If I can't find any takers, I'll fix it up myself and ask for the cost of parts extra.

I still want to get rid of this.

Last chance to buy it and fix it yourself. I have it torn apart. It does in fact just need the upper end rebuilt. It also needs a new chain and sprockets. With that done, it is ready to ride.

FWIW, you're looking at about $200 in parts to complete this bike; $500 for a "rebuilt" 97 KX100 is an insane deal.

If I had the time to spend, I could easily turn it around and make at least a $400 profit, just by spitshining the bike and installing the parts Dan says it needs to resell.

Awesome opportunity for someone with a kid outgrowing their little bikes and doesn't want to break the bank on getting a bike for the interim. Dan, I'll mention this to two people I know that might be in the market.
