Hotel info for all you would be travelers.....

The weekend rates for the Schuss Mnt Snow Challenge as offered by Shanty Creek Resorts will be as follows:

Schuss Village: Guest Room - $85; 1-Bd. Condo - $135; 2-Bd. Condo - $205

Summit Village: Guest Room - $99; 1-Bd. Condo - $135; 2-Bd. Condo - $235. These rates do not include the applicable taxes.
*Summit Village is located on the other side of the Shanty Creek Resort property. It is about 2 miles from the event location, literally just a hop skip and a jump away.

They just did a $10 million renovation to this hotel and it is NICE. You will be able to leave trailers and rigs at the Schuss location overnight Friday or Saturday as that is where all the parking is at.

Another local motel owner is offering some cheap rates on simple accommodations at his motel, but for the life of me I can't remember which name it was. I believe it is the Rapid River Motel, but that name is coming up at the wrong location. He is offering $40 singles, $50 doubles. I'll make sure his info is up and correct on the website.

Speaking of website, I will be posting a page with contact info and links to local hotels and motels that are offering rates for the Snow Challenge. I'll let everyone know as soon as it's all put together.

Everyone in northern Michigan keep your ears pealed for the radio spots beginning to air this up coming week on 95.5 Modern Rock The Zone. There will be passes being given away, upcoming contest and give a way, and the usual Zone mayhem.

Any updates on local motels not right at the mountain? I think it is getting around time to make reservations to at least go watch.

What everyone should know is there is about 5 FEET of base on the hill we'll be using. It is true mother nature could screw us, but it will take specific weather conditions to ruin the hill to where it can't be used. If that happens, we do have one back up plan; The half pipe will have TONS of snow still(thing is 10 feet high with base underneath it) that can be mowed over then groomed out. It will be on a slightly smaller hill, but still worthy.

So, unless we have a tropical heat wave for the next three weeks, we should be OK to keep things in order. As far as the snow..... that will all depend on what happens that week. I know a couple years ago we had a blizzard the first week of April. It's a crap shoot.

I called up that way to make a reservation today and the motej 5 miles away did not even know about this event. Along with radio advertising maybe a little more local advertising is in order. I was hopeing that they might have some kind of special priceing but its not for that weekend. It is actually $13 a night cheaper if this was in March.

The interest from so many people in overnight accommodations is unexpected to be honest. Keep in mind that this event has many facets to it, one of which is to help bring business to Shanty Creek resorts(seeing as they are letting us use one of their ski hills to drive up.) Their overnight rates are good, especially considering how night of a facility you will be staying at. This is why there hasn't been much other info.

We do want to help support the local community as well, so there is a page on the website(www.GriztekUSA.com) that gives a few names of local inns.

I am all for supporting Shanty Creek for allowing this event to be at there place but I do not consider $200 a night to be a reasonable price. Maybe somehow I could justify that for one night but most of the people that I will be going with are planning on stayinf Fri. and Sat. night. I will support the local economy though by staying down the road a couple miles.

One more question. I have a set of tires that are P-78 x 15. Will they be considered 31" tires?

From every bit of info I found on those tires, it all points to them being 32" with some places even referring to them as 33". I have no clue because I've never seen them, but that's what I found. If you have some differing info, pass it along.

Friday night, 4/3/09, we will be having an open registration from 6 - 8. During that time we will also have a make shift obstacle course dug into the snow. This if for anyone registered by Friday, or comes to register Friday night. It won't be anything killer, but something to do Friday evening as everyone begins to show up.

It's very possible there will be a big camp fire hillside. This will depend on conditions and how dry it is in the area used. It will be a good time for everyone to come hang out and throw around some BS wheelin stories. (Like how Grizz was the only one to drive up the 5 ft ledge on obstacle 2 at the 2008 TRRC and didn't have to pull winch cable.........oh wait, that was me ......... and that WASN'T BS, IT WAS REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Everyone keep you radios tuned to 95.5 Modern Rock The Zone this Wednesday morning between 8:00 and 9:00 am. Both myself (Grizz) and Clint Carter(Bccrtr) will be joining the Rock and Roll Freak Show to engage in some shenanigans typical of their morning show. We'll be discussing the event, talking about wheelin, cracking jokes, and giving away some spectator passes and the Friday night room at Schuss.

Remember to pre register to get your chance at the free room. Check the schedule for updates on times for Saturday(http://www.griztekusa.com/SnowChalle...istration.html) morning as we have added tech inspection to Friday night. This will aid in speeding up the SAturday morning rush to get everyone through the gates. If you come in Friday for registration and tech, all you will have to do Saturday is pay your entry.
