are there places to play around in the snow? Any trial runs?

It would be a disapointment for me to load up my buggy and drive 3 hours for a one run, single elimination

are the drags in powder or groomed? How long (distance) is the run?

There really isn't anywhere to wheel(legally) in the area. Not sure if anyone from the club would want to wheel the following day out on some of the seasonal roads. There are plenty of them around, but it would be hit or miss depending on what the weather had done the weeks leading up to the event.

As far as conditions go the hill will be groomed at the start of the event. It will be groomed a few times throughout the day depending on time constraints. The hill is a steady grade rising about 400ft which is about how long the race course will be. Hard to say exactly because we aren't there setting up yet.

Payouts? Are you using a tree to start? Any body/engine combo as long as you are not running nitrous, alcohol, etc... in the DOT classes? Can you run open exhaust in the DOT classes? Thanks.

This year will not contain any payouts. We wanted to, but being the first year run we don't want to slit our own throats before the event has even happened.

There will be a basic red/green starting tree. We'll have flag people at the finish line that way everyone spectating will be able to tell who won, even if you're at the bottom of the hill.

Any body/engine combo acceptable, but you have to abide by the rules for the tire classes vs the supermodified and diesel classes.

I will have to ring back in on the open headers. My notes seem to be missing that detail, but I know the committee discussed it, and before I say anything I had better just double check. They WILL be allowed in the SuperModified class.

So, tube frame, minimal body OK as long as its got a DOT tire??

Seems like a mimimum body panel rule would be nice, running against a tube frame mud car with a DOT tire isn't my idea of a good time.

most of the fun will just be the opportunity to run on the ski hill, along side of some friendly competition.

what would the difference be between racing a tube frame mud buggy, and racing a tube frame mud buggy with an 8 pound pair of fiberglass bedsides slapped on it?

Pay out doesn't pay out unless you come in first. What's great about these kinds of hill climbs is that there are inherent factors that make it so the biggest motor with the most HP doesn't always win.

Back to the open header topic: We'd like to see minimal open exhaust vehicles, but it will be allowed. The only class we won't be allowing open exhaust will be in the 31" and down class. Please don't ask why, how come, or "what if"..... These are the rules, that's just the way it is.

If I remember correctly there were no pay outs at the Charlovix Hill climb either but the entry was only $5 or $10. Seems like a $20 entry fee to maybe be eliminated the first pass is kinf of high. Especially for the guys that are driveing more than 100 miles to get there. I like the cheap entry and a trophy deals though. There are going to be trophys correct?

The last year the Charlevoix climb ran the entry was $15. Keep in mind that Mt. McSaba(sp?) was basically one hill and a much much smaller resort.

I don't have all the details nailed down, but there should be more than just the hill climb happening on Sat. We're trying to figure out the plan for Friday night to coax people into coming to register early and maybe stay. There MIGHT be the possibility of something to do Friday with your rig. This is still way up in the air, but the resort wants to try to make something happen.

There are going to be trophies for the top finishers. Not 100% sure how far out we'll be going, but winners will be taking home hardware.

If it's any consolation for long travelers, we're hoping that time will allow for "pick you race grudge matches." Again, this will depend on how many entries there are and how time goes. You'd be able to grab your smack talkin, big mouth buddy and take the fight to the hill. Both buy into the race for a small fee and you two get to race your own race. Remember, proceeds are going to the Disabled American Veterans.

It is 247 miles for me one way. I was just saying the possibility to win some money back for expenses would be nice. Most bogs I go to payout first, second and third.

I'm listening. I know it would be nice to payout something. I'm going to approach a few businesses that might be able to offer up some gas cards. It's not as good as cash, but we all love free gas. See what I can do.

a penny spent that hasnt been earned yet is a recipe for disaster. keep in mind that this is a first year event, and organizing these things is a lot of work. offering payouts before there is any money to pay out, really stretches a club pretty thin, and can easily lead to a failed event. payouts or not, no one likes a failed event that wont happen again.

would you rather have a great event with no payouts, or something like the events in the last ten years. oh wait, there were none.

bottom line is, payout or no payout, this will be a great event that we havent had in a very long time.

Don't ge me wrong, it sounds like a great event and we will still be there. I'm just saying I'd bet you'd have a better turnout paying at least something back.
