NikonCafe.com Is a good place to get some lens info, post questions etc... I like Nikkor glass a lot, but i also love my Tamron lens. Not sure about their high zoom stuff, but their 17-50mm is badass. I have the 55-200mm Nikkor non VR and like it a lot. Fast focus, pretty sharp, not the best f/range, but i dont really use it indoors. If ur not set on the 300mm mark the 70-200 f/2.8 Nikkor is badass, but pricey @ $1600.00

the Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 is every bit as sharp at the 70-200 just doesnt have VR and is $700 cheaper. I have one, it is an amazing lens.

Has anyone had any experience with this lense?
Tokina 80-200/2.8 ATX SD APO Pro Zoom Lens

Does $250 sound like a good deal for it?
Used but in excellent condition.

constant f/2.8 is nice, $250 sounds like a good deal, usually with brands like Tokina it all comes down to if you got a good copy of the lens or not as they aren't as consistent with quality as Nikon or Canon

I'm not experienced enough to recommend anything, but there's a lot of helpful sites out there, I've used this guys site as a resource quite a bit: Nikon Lens Tests

To see fleas you will need this, may be slightly out of ur price range, but will give huge street cred.

I have the Nikkor 70 -300 VR and I love it. Smooth, not to heavy to work with. I carry that one and the 15 -85 all the time
