Default Honeymoon OBX

I've been given free range to plan the honeymoon. I think I want to do the Outer Banks, NC in late May. Has anybody else done this? what advice do you have for me?

Visit the Wright Brothers museum and go wheelin on the beach. Might not be that romantic but me and my family enjoyed it last year.

If you have never been there before, I think you will find that they are probably the cleanest beaches anywhere along the east coast (I think that goes for pretty much all of the NC coast line actually).

When I was station in Jacksonville in the Marine Corps, I went to the OBX a couple times but we always either just went for a day trip or would stay at the absolute cheapest place you could find. Depending on how long you are going to be down there, it may be cheaper to rent a house than it would be to stay at a hotel (but I am not sure how economical that would be for just two people... most of the rental houses I am familiar with down there accomodate like 12 people).

If I recall correctly, May is when the beaches really start getting busy down there but you might still be able to catch some bargains for it being technically off-season.

I was there for a day trip. If you want to lounge on a beach (watch out fo jellyfish), check out all the lighthouses, and catch a few restaruants, it could be boring. I guess it depends on how long you plan to stay.

Go to the north end of OBX - the end ou have to use 4X4 and drive down the beach to get to.

After I completed Navy Nuclear Prototype School in Ballston Spa/Saratoga Springs, NY and spent a month at home (Ann Arbor, MI) I drove to my duty station in Charleston, SC. I took the scenic route and hit the Outer Banks. I enjoyed the drive so much that I stopped and spent the night in Nag's Head. Visited the Wright Brother's Museum and walked the beaches. Saw a movie at the theater. Took a few ferries to make it all the way South without backtracking. It was awesome. I still want one of those hammocks....$$$.

My mother used to be a light house attendant for the hatteras light. As a result, Ive spent some time in Avon. Its nice and quiet down there, far from the busyness of the kill devil hills.

Last time I was there though, we had a hurricane come through (Alex, '03). And they didnt classify it as a hurricane until a few hours before land fall. Good thing my house was on stilts.

are you picking that place because of a budget? or you two dont have any desire to travel out of the country? If I told CC to pick anywhere in the world for a honeymoon and he picked NC lol, i would be upset - you only go on your honeymoon once!! pick somwhere you wouldnt normally go! :) not bashing you, just curious

yeah, I'm only teaching part time right now and I am thinking of moving down there as well. She's been to Europe twice in the last few years. We want to go to Greece someday, but I don't think we're financially there yet. So yeah, it's due to the budget right now.

curious, Leanz, where would you go?

OBX is nice, but there are other inexpensive options if thats what youre looking for. I just went on a bahamian cruise for $250. Granted, it was on carnival, but it wasnt like I was in steerage either. There are excellent cruise deals out there.
