"87 f250 4x4 351/C6 with IFS (know it's not called that), Guy I bought it from killed the oil pump. Shut it off when it lost pressure, so need to change pump and bearings. Question is, can you remove the pan like you can with the solid axle? Or do you have to jack up the engine? It's in my yard up north, didn't remember to look before I came home. Original owner, no rust, smashed gate and no oil pressure= $300.
Engine must be jacked up until you hear stuff on the top starting to break then jack it up just alittle more. I would not attempt this job outside this time of year.
Thanks, didn't think so. Thought it had to be lifted. Wouldn't even think about doing this outside. Hoping I'm wrong about the axle, but I don't think so. I know it has the HD rear, so I'm assuming it has the hd front. Not the d44. Would rather have the weaker 44 than that tire eating independant front. Thinking D60 in the future! The bitch is, the guy just had a new pan put on.
I have done them without lifting the engine, but its not easy...and you wont be able to get the pan out of the way...unbolt the pan, let it set down, and reach in...hey, when your working flat-rate, you do anything you can to save some time and move on to the next job...
