I'm glad to be out. You don't realize how big of a Poop Hole SE michigan is until you move away from it.

No, we pretty much do realize it... But like everything, it is what you make of it.

As mentioned, the roads here are like butter.
The rust on the jeep has not spread since I moved here.
I am 2 hours from the ocean, and 3 hours from the mountains, 4 hours from DC, and 3 hours from Myrtle Beach.

The only things that I miss about West Michigan is the abundance of good microbrews, and being able to buy liquor at the grocery store.

Lets count the plus side of Michigan?
1. no chiggers.
2. fire ants.
3. no unusual snakes that are posinous and can't survive the winter.
4. no sand in the engines unless you go to the dunes.
5. no Hurricanes
6. monster floods like Iowa or Misery.
7. Georgia has no groomed trails for sleds. neither does NC.
8. No palmetto bugs
9. no sharks as yet.(just land type)
10.

10.Not a lot of wheeling
There is some good and bad in every state, but with our crap economy, lousy state government and losing jobs, other areas are looking good for people.

I hope it turns around but we have to change Lansing before we will even have a chance.

I think that one of the major down sides to Mi is its lack of giant bugs, large poisonous snakes and sharks.

x2. A hurricane would liven things up a bit, creating some construction work.

my neighborhood gets enough livi'n up around spring. the record for power being out is 13 days straight. the worse ice storm only took me out for 6 1/2 days.

as for Massusaga rattle snakes....we have bigger wasps. I saw the biggest one ever when I was a kid. it was 42" long! guy us kids knew caught it rabbit hunting. saw it in the grass and used the butt of his .22 to pin the head. took it home and kept it in a trash can. it was found right along the creek by congress rd in Ypsi.

I often find myself wishing that the salt mines would SUDDENLY COLLAPSE and the crater SUDDENLY FILL UP WITH WATER and then Id have lakefront property.

I just Love Michigan! I think one of the most wonderful states to see in the US - I have been to 47 other states and still LOVE this state the most! If I had to move I would like to move to CO.
You people that people are nicer elsewhere, it just because they don't know you yet.
It's just like when you meet your neighbor for the first time and then later he turns out to be a real ass.

That's a good point. There are a lot of states out there. If I could pick, I would live anywhere but Michigan since the economy is so bad. I would leave today, but I desperately need to change the oil in my car.
