Default Dte

It's dark, there's a ton of snow in my yard and I will not go out and look at my meter until daylight but damn I'm pissed right now. Last months DTE bill was 411 KWH for $47. Very doable, I'm happy.

Current bill? 1740 KWH for $174. Da hell? I investigate online and this is more than double last years usage for the same time frame and my largest usage ever was 1200 KWH in the summer with every fan running 24/7. The current reading is estimated and it pisses me right off.

Point here, I'm spewing and just needed to vent. Check your bills people, I can't be the only one they're doing this to. Oh...and save the yeah, but you'll get a nice fat credit next month. No thank you, would rather not let them bank my money if at all possible. Lesson learned, I will do my own reading and input it on their website. Bastards.

Thank you. I feel MUCH better now.

i just had a bill for 274... to clue in, i have never in 2 years in this house had a bill over 72. they told me it is because they hadnt actually read my meter since june. so they estimated. then they finally came out to read it and they had to tack on all that they had shorted in the estimates.. i am livid. who do they think they are? comcast!

Thing is, they are out here every month typically. I see the footprints in the snow tracking to the meter and the bill reads as actual vs. est. (Don't even get me started about the chick that tippytoed out in high heels through snow last year)

If they hadn't read and I actually owed, that would be one thing. But to have an actual reading and then to estimate when they don't want to walk in the snow and to make it so much higher...I don't understand that.

Ok, maybe I'm naive so forgive me, but how do they get away with estimating your usage?

Does that mean you can "estimate" how much to pay them? Seems like bullshit.

Don't I wish! I did cancel bill pay via online banking until I talk to them tomorrow.

Thing is, I grumbled mightily about it when it hit. We've been very careful around here regarding energy usage etc and that bill blew me away. I still just scheduled the payment like a good lil doobie but no more. I shall be in bitch mode tomorrow and make a few phone calls.

Doesnt beat this.... A bill out of nowhere two months after I cancelled service and they picked up my box. When cancelling, I checked three times with the CSR to make sure every last penny due was paid off. Next month they didnt send anything (which was correct), then the other day I got this bill. They said I still have service with them and have not paid for 7 months; even though every last penny was paid at cancel, and they came and got my box.

It seems these scams are getting worse and worse now that everyone is in panic mode about the economy.

Actually, I assumed the smoker was the culprit but we only used it twice and then I saw that it was an estimated bill.

Wait...the smoker...maybe they did a drive by and assumed we were growing?

My sister had a problem with DTE reading her meter incorrectly. She normally has about a $25 - $35 bill but in December got one for $160. She called them up and they sent her outside to the meter and told her how to read it and she was able to tell them what the usage actually was and got her bill adjusted back down to where it should be.

Moving slightly off topic, I used to work as a social worker with the state's Department of Military and Veteran Affairs and folks would come in with a shut off notice and owe like $1,500 or something. I would ask them how it got so high and what they were told when they talked to DTE but of course these retards were always like, "I was scared to call them because they would be angry!" But as much as people like to call them the big scary energy company, DTE is generally more than willing to work with folks when they need help or fix their own mistakes when they outright screw up.

if dte is anything like consumers energy, you can simply ignore the bill they gave you, login to your account, enter the meter reading and then pay the actual.

I'm a dumbass, in my anger last night I typed DTE and should have typed Consumers Energy.

Now, on to the good news. I read my meter today and 3 weeks after the estimated read, the meter is still lower by 500 KWH over the estimated read. They backdated everything and my $174 bill is now $94. Much better.

They said they implemented a new system that generated really high estimations. ya think??

balance pay (gas & elec) = 376/mo (I have seen the bill for July and august and the elec is usually around 500-600!)

OK. Don't let it happen again.

DTE's electric estimating algorithm is extremely accurate, using weather data from 12 locations across the state. In testing, it's typically within +/- 10% It's used when the meter reader can't safely gain access to the meter (dog, locked gate, ice, deep snow, meth lab, etc...). The read rate is 96%+, so very few meters go unread. In a few years, they'll all be Automated Metering Initiative (AMI) meters that report their own readings via a wireless network. We'll be able to see daily usage, outages (i.e. meter will call and say "no power"), and you'll be able to buy thermostats, hot water heaters, etc... that talk to your meter and only run when rates drop (making time of day rates more attractive). My house is part of the initial pilot, so it's geek fun time...

Nice! DTE has always been pretty dead on for me, my meter is easy to get to and they don't do estimates. I'm liking the sound of the new technology though!

I was having the same problem with consumers until I called as requested that they would no longer estimate my bill and would always do actual readings every month. Haven't had a problem since and that was over 2 years ago.

Consumers told me they put in a digital meter that they didn't have to read, that it reported back and every bill would now be exact. They then sent me a bill for $900 dollars the next month. I hate consumers with a passion
