Default Power Wagon Resto-mod

Decided I would start a thread on my truck since I'm on spring break now and have some time to work on it.
Here is what I started with

Front clip taken off

Found some rust

And some more

As of now the plan is to replace the fenders, fix what other rust spots there are. The front fenders were the worst. POR-15 the frame and underneath the truck. And shoot some nice forest green paint, still open to ideas on the color though.

Here's my little helper checking out underneath the truck

Ripping up some nasty carpet

Floors look pretty solid which is good news to me

And some parts patiently waiting

I already got a couple gallons of bondo. But seriously the fenders are beyond repair and are getting replaced. The other spot on the cab should be a somewhat easy repair.

It's a love/hate all in one color - its amazingly bright, but I have yet to meet anyone that doesn't get a headache just looking at it in person.
I'm not feeling the super bright Mercedes yellow

Metallic Gunmetal would look really nice with all that chrome.

Very cool project. I've always like these old Power Wagons.

I have my eye on one locally in a crew cab.

What's your plans as far as the drivetrain goes?

I have some 302# casting number heads and a 4 barrel intake and a mild cam for the 318.
It has a Dana 60 and 44 with 4.10 gears and a Detroit locker in the front already. Probably leave those until something gives out.
Chances are I will need new leaf springs. It just has some older lift springs. At a very minimum new shocks.
So the drivetrain is gonna stay pretty similar to how I got it. I'm not building a crazy off road rig, I just want a nice old truck to drive around and take to the dunes.

Back in the day, some buds and I bought 9 power wagon from the white sands missile test center. I got a crew cab out of the bunch. welded up the back doors for a sleeper cab. 383, 4 spd, A/C out of an old Newport. I love these things.

The regular cab from the same buy. It's a 1969 also.

Edited to add, we had to reinforce the back corners of the cab mounts

That crew cab is bad ass. They are sort of the ugly duckling, not your every day Ford or Chevy, that is why I love them so much. That step side truck is cool as shit too.
