Default Ever have to do a job you just hate?

we were truning everything off for the holiday and my boss told me and another guy to go around and shut off the battery back ups on the computors since they are shutting down power to most of our buildings. we had to go around and turn them off in two buildings. at our crash barrier the guys who were helping me said "theres one up there" motioning towards the camara cat walk. its 37 feet to the bottom and like 56 steps up on all open grate work. well I started climbing, I hated every second. me and heights just don't cut it. when I can walk on the grating and feel it flex under my weight it gives me the heebi jeebis. found the battery back up and turned it off... and got the hell down from there.

only job i truly hated was Painting, not because of the work...just my boss....he was barely around but when he was you would never stop screaming at anyone, esp. on odd jobs that we do not normally do and do not really have a rhythm to be able to do the job that quickly. Only reason why i told him I was done after Aug for GOOD! He actually has a blown blood vessel in his eye from getting to worked up on shit.

Replacing hydraulic hoses and such on Taddonio Disposals nasty ass trucks. I'm pretty sure I'm pretty sure I expanded my ability to hold my breath by about 2 minutes that day alone.

I hate doing anything. I hope they bring back general assistance so I can sit on the couch and watch TV all day.

But I really hate working with hydraulic fluid, makes me itch. What sucks is that I'm good at it.

X2 on hating heights.

There's a bi-annual survey point at a regional nuclear power facility that requires climbing the ladder up the side of the cooling tower. Heights are already bad enough (get tense on roof of my ranch house), but when the pull of gravity is back AND down (after passing the midway "waist point of the cooling tower) things REALLY get bad.

But then, doing environmental sampling in Lake Erie and getting a school of shad caught in the seine is pretty bad too. They're not a sample species, they're small, get tangled in the net, and pop when you try to de-tangle them. After an hour or so, you're covered in shad scales and doused in shad juice.

i have a new found respect for you. i would crap my pants and cry if i had to do that. ive gotten used to most heights and they dont bother me that much (i.e. ladders, scaffolding, roofs), but that would suck

Don't get me wrong. I whined like a nine year-old girl. And promptly got myself promoted so I could direct another individual to complete that task. It's the American way!

We have some video shot by the guys changing out the aircraft marker lights on the EF2 cooling towers. They used the ladder all the way to the top, and then walked along the rim of the tower (about 10" wide) to do the lights.

The safety line would be useless to me, because if I slipped my heart would fail long before I hit the end of the fall arrest harness.
